Job Description: The P&ID Engineer is responsible for the creation, review, and updating of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, which provide a detailed representation of the piping, process flow, and instrumentation within industrial facilities, particularly power plants.

This role involves a solid understanding of piping systems, equipment, and instrumentation, as well as knowledge of power plant operations. The engineer will also be required to conduct site visits for the verification of designs, and collaboration with on-site teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Piping and Instrumentation Drawing (P&ID) Design:

Review P&ID drawings to reflect accurate process flows, piping arrangements, and instrumentation details. Ensure P&IDs adhere to project specifications, codes, and standards (e.g., ASME, API). Collaborate with process engineers, piping designers, and instrumentation specialists to incorporate all necessary details into the drawings.

  1. Piping System Design and Knowledge:

Analyze piping layouts and ensure that all piping components (valves, flanges, fittings) are appropriately specified and located. Understand and implement piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.1, B31.3) relevant to power plant operations.

  1. Power Plant Systems Knowledge:
Interpret and design P&IDs for power plant systems, including steam, cooling, condensate, and fuel handling systems. Collaborate with power plant operations teams to understand process requirements and incorporate them into the design.
  1. Site Visits and Inspections:
Conduct site visits to verify installed equipment, piping, and instrumentation matches the P&IDs.Provide on-site technical support and ensure P&IDs are updated to reflect any changes made during construction or operation.
  1. Collaboration and Reporting:
Work closely with cross-functional teams including process engineers, mechanical engineers, and contractors to ensure project deliverables are met. Prepare reports, documentation, and updates for stakeholders regarding design progress and field observations.

Maintain and update P&ID documentation as changes occur throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in P&ID design, piping, or instrumentation in industrial or power plant environments.
  • Strong knowledge of piping systems, materials, and design standards.
  • Familiarity with power plant processes and equipment, including turbines, boilers, pumps, and heat exchangers.
  • Ability to conduct and document site visits and inspections.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
