The Finance and Risk practice, part of our Financial Services Group, is seeking an Engagement Manager or a Principal to support our continued expansion, a strategic priority for the firm. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a successful team that represents a core competency of the firm.

Finance and Risk is the largest of our specialized practices within Financial Services and is the cornerstone of Oliver Wymans reputation as a leader in finance and risk management. Key Responsibilities:

Engagement Managers direct the day-to-day work of our consulting teams, working side-by-side with our clients. The Engagement Manager position offers excellent career and growth opportunities for talented, highly motivated professionals with notable prior experience. Engagement Managers are given the opportunity for rapid professional growth, to participate in entrepreneurial work, and to share in the success of the team. Initial responsibilities may include:

Leading teams of consultants in complex analysis and strategic problem solving including: problem framing, the use of advanced analytical techniques (regular regression and machine learning), results synthesis, and identification of client implications, especially in the risk analytics space but may require coverage across all Financial Services subsectors

Overseeing and guiding the consulting team as they digest firms previous intellectual capital, develop hypotheses; manage data collection, model development and analyses; conduct primary and secondary research; creatively tackle information / data limitations; and surface insights

Effectively communicating issues and solutions in formal and informal settings, both verbally and in writing

Supporting Partners in project execution through excellent project management including: work planning, managing work flow, upward management and coaching/developing more junior team members
Managing client relationships and networks, presenting to senior audiences, and working day-to-day with mid-to-senior level clients

Develop content in risk analytics space, especially on retail and corporate credit risk, with bonus point if can cover topics including one or many of the following: emerging risks including climate / nature related risk, cybersecurity risk, AI risk, technology risk, compliance & AFC, etc.

Principal Additional Responsibilities:

Support business development and generate new client or project opportunities, especially in the risk analytics space a self-starter on business development and play team sports in cultivating opportunities and deepening client relationships beyond project work

Oversight of large or multiple client engagements work planning, communications, process and client management

Lead, day-to-day trusted advisor for mid-level and senior-level client interactions; support executive-level client communication and relationship management for identifying truly transformative moments at the clients
Collaboration with Engagement Managers and Associates in guiding team members in structuring analysis modules and client communications

Sharing team knowledge and best practices across the firm

Experience Required:

Just as every client project is different, we recognize and value the diversity of backgrounds and skill sets for successful Engagement Manager/ Principal candidates. We are seeking high-caliber individuals who want to join our winning team. Preference will be given to candidates with:
5+ years of relevant experience, ideally with a top-tier strategy consulting firm (or other similar organizations with project-based, team-oriented environments)

In-depth knowledge of topics in Finance and Risk, especially risk analytics, gained through experience in the industry or in other Top Tier consultancy houses, prior experience with risk or front-line analytics functions

Skills and Attributes:

Track record of leading and managing teams, and delivering against tight deadlines in fast-paced, demanding environments
Strong background in strategic problem solving with demonstrable skills in analytics (e.g. model development experience in Python, R, SAS, etc.)
Good understanding of analytics and risk management in financial services
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Undergraduate or advanced degree from a top academic program
Willingness to travel

Native in Chinese & professionally fluency in English
