Sr. production control planner
Overview:
The Senior Production Control Planner will be responsible for creating and maintaining production schedules, ensuring optimal use of resources, and meeting production deadlines. This role requires strong organizational skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to ensure seamless production operations.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to Sonny’s PPE Policy and maintain a safe work environment.
- Identify and report unsafe work behaviors and conditions to the Safety Manager.
- Attend monthly safety trainings and weekly safety huddles.
- Maintain an organized work area and ensure walkways, emergency exits, and panels are clear of obstructions.
- Create and maintain a rolling production schedule for each work center.
- Review and generate daily and weekly performance reports.
- Lead weekly production meetings and develop scheduling reports.
- Optimize run quantities and account for setup efficiencies.
- Track job progress and ensure adherence to the production schedule.
- Collaborate with production management to manage personnel and overtime.
- Interact with Purchasing, Planning, and Production to resolve scheduling challenges.
- Monitor critical dates and adjust schedules as necessary.
- Communicate capacity constraints and potential issues to Production, Supply Chain and Production Control & Inventory Manager.
- Review sales orders and collaborate with customer service to ensure on-time delivery.
- Identify and address bottlenecks or capacity constraints by adjusting schedule.
- Analyze scheduling and production performance data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Use data analytics tools to predict scheduling outcomes and make data driven decisions.
- Identify potential risk in the production schedule, including supplier issues, equipment, downtime, or shortages.
- Develop contingency plans and adjust schedules proactively to mitigate risks to schedule.
- Ensure availability of parts for all scheduled work orders.
- Validate production dates of materials and expedite/reschedule as needed.
- Communicate part shortages to the Supply Chain, Operations, and ship.
- Coordinate materials for subcontracting and outbound scheduling.
- Participate in production meetings and review safety stock levels and inter-plant replenishment requirements.
- Lead the PFEP review with the other planners and update safety stock, re-order point, lot size as needed.
- Act as a liaison between sales and operations to determine whether orders can be expedited or if they will need to adhere to the current lead time.
- Work closely with the logistics manager to ensure that shortages for current week shipments are escalated.
- Schedule production order completion to support inter-plant transfers.
- Create schedules to fulfill inventory requirements at warehouse locations.
- Review and investigate replenishment metrics and make recommendations.
- Communicate stocking parameter concerns and balance replenishment tactics.
- Track component changes and participate in new product launches.
- Update shop floor paperwork as required for changes.
- Maintain up-to-date scheduling and performance information.
- Execute critical reporting for production efficiency and performance.
- Review scheduling details with the Plant Manager for ongoing improvements.
- Complete annual self-evaluation reviews and set goals for the upcoming quarter.
- Attend monthly 1-to-1 meetings with the Sr Planning and Inventory Manager and support team development.
- Take initiative in professional development and support the growth of team members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., APICS) are a plus.
- At least 5 years in production scheduling or a related role, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, proficiency in scheduling software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
