Academic Advisor

Place of Performance: Beale AFB, CA

General Description:
Academic Advisor responsible to the Beale Air Force Base, Education Services Officer for conducting academic counseling to active-duty military personnel, and other eligible customers. Provides sound academic and career counseling by assisting members to establish realistic and timely short and long term educational and vocational goals, identifying challenges to goal attainment, and providing periodic follow-up.

Briefs on programs to include first time users Air Force tuition assistance briefing, in-processing, First Term Airman Educational Briefing, NCO Enhancement, Informed Decision, etc.

Specific Tasks:
Provide academic counseling and briefings (as applicable) to active-duty AF personnel on all programs available through voluntary education. Counsels individuals on transfer of credits to the Community College of the Air Force and/or other colleges and universities.

Assists and explains requirements for degree completion. Provides counseling on various degree goals and programs in accordance with Military Life Cycle (MLC) program directives.

As part of the MLC program, provide information, resources, and analysis to Airmen ranging from basic information such as credit hour, accreditation, and available programs to more advanced guidance to include assessments of interest and long-term goals.

Provide guidance to wounded service members on educational opportunities and employment in preparation for transition to civilian life as required.
Provide basic program information both individually and in group/briefing settings. Updates AFAEMS of briefing attendance. Creates education records for airmen newly assigned to Beale.

Uses the Air Force Automated Education Management System (AFAEMS) to maintain comprehensive records which include but are not limited to: initial and subsequent counseling sessions; reviewing, approving, and uploading degree/education plans; other counseling/vocational guidance provided.

Provide educational briefings as required by Education Services Officer.

Education: A baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited American college of university is required.

Masters degree and or 15-30 semester hours in academic counseling, secondary education or a related discipline is highly desired.

Experience/Skills/Knowledge: Excellent customer service skills and verbal communication skills are essential.

Appropriate education-related professional work or volunteer experience of at least one year in Education programs within the least 3 years is highly desirable.

Knowledge of/experience with AF terminology, office procedures, and Dept. of Defense education programs plus familiarity/facility with Microsoft Office is desirable.
