About the Job:
The Business Intelligence team is looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist II with a solution-oriented mindset and a passion for transforming data into actionable insights and solutions. In this role, you’ll collaborate with internal customers to offer innovative and alternative strategies that address the unique challenges of San Diego International Airport, directly influencing operations, financial performance, and the passenger experience.
Expertise in BI tools like Power BI or Tableau, advanced scripting languages such as SQL, R, or Python, and a deep understanding of data visualization and business KPIs are essential. This role requires the ability to translate complex data into meaningful insights and provide actionable recommendations that drive impactful decision-making.As a trusted advisor and technical leader, the candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s impactful data-driven culture.
What You’ll Do:
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with business units and project stakeholders to gather requirements, understand objectives, and define KPIs that drive value.
- Data Analysis and Scripting: Conduct comprehensive analyses using advanced reporting tools and scripting languages such as SQL, R, or Python.
- Insight Delivery: Provide clear, coherent, and insightful recommendations grounded in data analysis and subject-matter expertise.
- Report and Dashboard Design: Create actionable reports, visualizations, and dashboards by leveraging appropriate datasets and models to deliver meaningful insights.
- BI Solution Optimization: Maintain and enhance existing BI solutions while fostering a data-driven culture throughout the organization.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay ahead of emerging BI trends and technologies to ensure the organization's BI tools and processes remain cutting-edge.
The Skills We Are Looking For:
- Reporting and Analysis—Analyze and report on data trends across sectors like airline operations and financial functions, utilizing advanced querying and scripting languages to create meaningful insights.
- Technical & Process Knowledge— Expertise in BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel, and SSRS, with strong knowledge of KPIs, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT processes.
- Visualization and Data Modeling— Design interactive visualizations and scalable data models to provide actionable business insights.
- Communication/Collaboration— Translate complex data concepts into actionable insights through professional engagement with stakeholders.
- Leadership and Independence— Lead technical initiatives and operate independently on complex projects.
- Problem Solving/Agility— Solve complex problems proactively, adapting to changing business needs with innovative BI solutions.
- Project Management— Oversee multiple BI projects simultaneously, ensuring quality and timely completion.
Requirements
The Experience You Need to Have**:
- Three years of related experience demonstrating expertise in creating detailed reports, data-driven presentations, and insightful data analysis, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in business administration, computer Science, information management, or a closely related field.
Preferred Education, Certification, and Licenses:
- Master’s degree in mathematics, business administration, economics, computer science, information management, statistics, or a related field.
- Microsoft Certified Power BI Data Analyst Associate, Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Analytics Professional (CAP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or similar certification.
- Lean Six Sigma or similar certification.
