Lead Phlebotomist, Outpatient Department - Day Shift

The Lead Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood and supporting staff as needed at UChicago Medicine under minimal supervision.We provide state-of-the-art care for conditions of the blood vessels and lymphatic systems. Our experts treat all vascular conditions, offering non-surgical, minimally invasive and traditional surgical options to deliver the highest level of patient care.
This department is in the Nursing Outpatient Phlebotomy. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Assists the Manager in managing the daily operations of the outpatient phlebotomy team and assumes supervisory role and responsibilities in his/her absence.
Essential Job Functions- Communicates effectively with co-workers, supervisor, and other clinical staff
- Promotes team concept within the phlebotomy area as well as with other clinical areas
- Monitors and controls inventory
- Assists in staffing assignments based on workload and personnel
- Aids in job performance and competency assessment of phlebotomy staff
- Investigates complaints and problems; follows up with supervisor
- Performs and is proficient with all basic and complex procedures provided by phlebotomy service
- Trains phlebotomists and Patient Care Technicians and nurses
- Performs other duties as required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Phlebotomy training from an accredited program
- At least two years pertinent experience as a phlebotomist
- Requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide phlebotomy services to patients of all ages including infants, children, adults and/or geriatrics
- Requires basic computer skills
- Thorough knowledge of aseptic technique
- Requires the ability to perform in stressful situations and handle high volumes of patient visits in narrow time frames
- Requires the ability to interact and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and other health care workers
- Ability to stand, stoop, push, lift 25 pounds, and walk distances up to 6 city blocks in length
- Ability to adapt to rapidly changing environment
- Ability to complete tasks accurately and document appropriately according to guidelines
- Ability to follow directions and established procedures

- Shift: Days Shift with variable hours from 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, Saturday rotation

We anticipate you will be scheduled to work 100% at the Hyde Park campus. The days of the week that you are scheduled will vary depending on the week, but we anticipate that you will be scheduled to work on rotating weekends and holidays.
