Purpose:

The five US regions serve as hubs of programmatic activity, programmatic excellence, and operational oversight ensuring alignment with CWS mission, vision, values – as well as policies and procedures. The Regional Director, West Region, provides strategic leadership and drives decision making around program expansion, geographic growth, and business development within the region.
She/he oversees the implementation of CWS’ strategy and programming in CWS local offices in the region, ensuring all regional activities are well-coordinated, technically sound, and efficiently implemented. She/he directly supervises local office/site directors, the Deputy Regional Director, and the Regional Finance Director.

The Regional Director is a field-based member of the CWS Headquarters team, coordinates regularly with programs, communications, business development, finance, operations, and CWS leadership, and is supervised by the Senior Director, US Programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership, management, and supervision for all program activity within the region and ensure that programmatic goals are attained, and contract compliance is maintained.
  • In consultation with the Senior Director, US Programs, plan new programs, envision and drive expanded services for immigrant populations in the region, seek additional resources for other programmatic activity, and oversee and/or support the submission of applications for funding for these programs.
  • Support CWS local site/office directors to define and implement regional program strategy, in close coordination with Headquarters and CWS programs leadership, ensuring that local plans align with organizational and departmental goals.
  • Oversee local teams/offices’ development and implementation of strategic and operational plans and new site and program development.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with public and private partners, including State Refugee Coordinators within the region, regional and/or statewide nonprofits and other voluntary agencies providing services to refugees and immigrants, and as/where appropriate local communities of faith.
  • Identify process improvements, synergies, and efficiencies within the region, and coordinate with other regional directors to share learnings and advance common goals.
  • Lead and grow regional team to support all programs/offices in region with administrative capacity (HR, Finance, IT).
  • Contribute to local fundraising efforts, proposal development, compliance, and reporting.
  • Set and communicate professional standards and expectations, supporting local leadership to design and develop training for staff in region and ensure CWS meets its duty of care to staff.
  • Directly manage the day-to-day performance of local leadership.
  • Build, monitor, and constantly improve program compliance systems, with a focus on local/state programming.
  • Work with other regional directors and CWS leadership to develop effective processes, policies, and systems to effectively implement the region’s work.
  • Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 9 years of related work experience, including management/supervisory experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising managers with direct reports.
  • Experience supervising managers with direct reports preferred.
  • Experience overseeing administrative functions (Finance, HR, IT, Operations) preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong management skills, including experience in staff management and development, labor relations, performance appraisal, conflict resolution, and administrative oversight required.
  • Demonstrated high level of familiarity with immigration, refugee, and/or social service programs strongly required.
  • Familiarity with government and private funding and contractual requirements and experience with grant writing/proposal development strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with and through faith and other community-based partners strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent required; master’s degree in nonprofit management, social services, refugee/immigration policy, or international development preferred (but not required).
  • Bachelor’s degree in related Field or equivalent required, master’s degree preferred.

This position is a role with in-person responsibilities with the option for hybrid flexibility. Employees wishing to maintain a hybrid work arrangement must be able to fulfil the following conditions:

  • Ability to visit all offices in the region as needed
  • Ability to maintain secure and appropriate personal work environment for day-to-day work
  • Access to strong and reliable internet access
  • Ability to adhere to CWS data security policies and protect sensitive and personally identifiable information
  • Regular work hours must span core business hours 10-4PM Eastern time
  • Close proximity to U.S. airport and ability to travel to attend CWS and external meetings, conferences and other in-person engagements.
