Job Purpose:
The Quality Manager will oversee and manage the quality assurance and control processes within the metal fabrication shops. This role involves developing, implementing, and maintaining quality systems to ensure that products meet the required standards and specifications.

The Quality Manager will work closely with production and engineering teams to drive continuous improvement.

Description of Essential Duties:

  • Quality Management Systems:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with industry standards.
  • Regularly review and update quality policies and procedures to ensure effectiveness and compliance.
  • Inspection and Testing:
  • Oversee the inspection and testing processes to ensure product quality and conformity to specifications.
  • Develop and implement inspection criteria and procedures.
  • Manage the calibration and maintenance of inspection equipment.
  • Audit and Compliance:
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with QMS and industry standards.
  • Prepare for and coordinate external audits, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Address and resolve non-conformances identified during audits.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce defects, and increase efficiency.
  • Implement Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements.
  • Analyze quality data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Supplier Quality Management:
  • Establish and maintain quality standards for suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier audits and monitor supplier performance.
  • Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve overall quality.
  • Training & Education of Employees
  • Develop and deliver training programs for employees on quality standards and practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of quality activities, including inspection reports, test results, and audit findings.
  • Prepare and present quality reports to senior management.
  • Ensure documentation is accessible and maintained according to regulatory requirements.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, or a related field. Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, ASQ Certified Quality Manager), is a plus.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in quality management within a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of developing, implementing, and managing quality systems.
  • Expert level knowledge of quality management systems and standards (ASME, AISC, ISO 9001, Lean, Six Sigma).

Requirements:

  • Travel will be required between manufacturing facilities and supplier audits up to 50% of the time.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move and/or pull up to 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) of equipment, material and/or tools which may include lifting 50 pounds (up to 100 pounds with assistance) above shoulders. Must also be capable of climbing onto trailers or trucks to secure and move equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee works in airborne particles, dust, non-weather heat, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee could be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but may be loud at certain times. May require standing for extended periods, heavy lifting, climbing, and using inspection tools and equipment.
