The Diocese of Harrisburg is looking for a faith-filled, innovative educator to join the Office of Catholic Education leadership team. The diocese is seeking a dynamic Catholic leader with the experience and entrepreneurial spirit to build upon the transformational change occurring in the twenty-seven (27) elementary schools and six (6) high schools in the diocesan school system.
The Assistant Superintendent for High Schools will have primary responsibility to provide support, resources, and oversight to our high schools for Catholic identity, curriculum and assessment, school safety, technology, school programs, finance, student and personnel matters, and overall vitality of the schools.S/he will assist with leadership development for principals and presidents and will collaborate with school constituencies of the diocese including pastors, principals, presidents, boards, intermediate units, teachers, parents, students, and diocesan personnel.
The Assistant Superintendent for High Schools will assist in the comprehensive strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services. This position will provide leadership in formulating and directing policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for programmatic and professional development and educational support services.
In addition, this position will work with the Superintendent to establish benchmarks to ensure growth in a data-informed approach to school leadership. The Assistant Superintendent for High Schools must have a strong commitment to the philosophy of Catholic Education and spiritual formation that guides all our work.
ResponsibilitiesFocus areas for the Assistant Superintendent for High Schools will be:
--Ensure the Catholic identity of our schools, in collaboration with the principal and pastor; --Serve as the academic leader for the Catholic high schools; --Establish short and long-term educational objectives; --Collaborate with Superintendent to review, share, and use data to promote data-informed decision-making with principals; --Collaborate with principals and presidents on student and personnel matters; --Manage/Monitor all certificates of compliance; --Oversee all PDE requirements; --Collaborate with Superintendent on leadership development to achieve the highest performance level in their schools and ensure curricular standards are met; --Work collaboratively to develop and implement consistent policies for the school system; --Oversee the technology plan and support the safety plans at all schools; --Assist with professional development opportunities for both administrators and faculty; and all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
Qualifications--License/Certification: Either a School Administrator (Principal K-12) or Superintendent Certification.
--A practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church, with a strong commitment to Catholic identity in schools; --A joyful, positive, thoroughly Catholic attitude overall; commitment and track record of treating people as made in the image and likeness of God; track record of emotional intelligence in handling difficult situations; --A Master's degree in educational administration/school leadership/curriculum and instruction or other related discipline; --Minimum of 10 years of successful school leadership; --Contemporary knowledge of academics, including curriculum development, professional development, and technology; --Track record of academic excellence across all aspects of curriculum; --Understanding of accreditation process and familiarity with Middle States accreditation process; --Knowledge of Federal Programs and ability to communicate and work with Intermediate Units and local school districts regarding Title Services preferred; --Experience with state-funded services such as Non-Public Information System (NPIS) preferred; --Relationship-oriented leadership style with demonstrated ability to work with a variety of constituencies (pastors, principals, boards, parents, et al.), including school visitations for assessment; --Familiarity with technology services at schools and ability to recognize efficiencies and improvements with technology implementation for all schools; --Knowledge of best practices in the area of school safety and ability to coordinate with various agencies to provide opportunities for professional development; --Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines; and
--Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all constituents.The Superintendent reserves the right to waive particular qualifications at his discretion.
