OHSU has three missions: healing, teaching, and discovery. In the School of Nursing, these focus to optimize health, prepare nurse leaders, and transform health care. Infusing these is a fourth: to become a trauma-informed and truly anti-racist institution.

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.

$127,130-$146,200/yr. Commensurate with education and experience.

Function/Duties of Position:

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service. Faculty members are expected to participate in service to the school, including student advising and generation of scholarship.

The director is an academically qualified and APRN certified faculty member who meets state and national standards for licensure and excellence in advanced practice nursing at the OHSU School of Nursing. The individual in this leadership role has responsibility and authority for program structure, functions, practices, and budget such that the program adheres to accreditation and state nurse practice act.

The director ensures curricular and program requirements are established according to School of Nursing norms and that operations are standardized to ensure comparable educational outcomes are met across APRN specialty programs. The director ensures active engagement of all faculty in program recruitment, curricular development, course and program goal attainment, student engagement, and cohesive program functioning.

This position reports to (supervisor): Assistant Dean, APRN DNP Program.

The duties of this position include:

  1. Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research): Plans and supervises student lab and/or clinical experiences based on teaching assignment. This faculty’s clinical practice may be separate from OHSU FTE or may be incorporated into the overall OHSU FTE; this is part of position negotiation.
  2. Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.): Engages in professional activities related to interest and expertise and participates in scholarly productivity that meets the school’s promotion and tenure requirements by faculty rank.
  3. Education Activities (include types of teaching and types of student taught): Working with APRN students in face to face, online, and hybrid environments, provides effective didactic and clinical instruction based on teaching assignment. Uses appropriate instructional technologies to ensure course outcomes are met. Participates collaboratively in development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum. Mentors and advises students and faculty.
  4. Service Activities: These activities include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities and other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor. Participates in faculty governance and provides leadership in local, state, or national organizations.
  5. Administrative Activities: As APRN Core Director
  6. Coordination of resources for the APRN Core involves collaborating with stakeholders to address the following aspects:
  7. Personnel
  8. In partnership with APRN specialty program directors and lab and simulation leaders, securing faculty and staff to deliver all aspects of APRN Core courses.
  9. Providing guidance and direction to classroom, lab, and simulation faculty and staff in relation to work that specifically supports the APRN Core. Concerns regarding personnel performance will be evaluated in collaboration with direct supervisors.
  10. Providing guidance to assigned Program Administrator(s) to facilitate operational aspects of courses
  11. Delivery – Securing needed resources and training for faculty, students, and staff for effective teaching and learning
  12. Space – Securing appropriate physical and digital spaces for learning to take place
  13. Supplies & Equipment – Securing needed supplies and equipment for effective teaching and learning at Portland campus and coordinating with onsite resources at regional campuses.
  14. Liaising with SON/OHSU Governance & Regulatory Bodies – In close collaboration with APRN PDs, serves as point-person for APRN Core courses with SON Governing groups (e.g. Graduate Council & APRN Committee), OHSU (e.g. Assessment Council), and external stakeholders (e.g. OSBN
  15. Improvement. Continually improving the APRN Core involves both incremental and breakthrough innovation specifically aimed at (1) achieving student learning outcomes for each course; (2) preparing students to be successful in selected programs; and (3) living out the SON’s values.
  16. Content – Systematically collect and analyze student and faculty feedback for the purpose of driving positive change in curriculum and pedagogy.
  17. Structure & Delivery – In alignment with the SON’s values of integrity, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, continually explore and implement methods to ensure all students have equitable and quality educational opportunity.
  18. Future DNP considerations – Continually monitoring trends in DNP/APRN education to align the APRN Core with best practices.
  19. Other Activities: The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.

Required Qualifications:

Education: (Degree dependent on academic program type and rank of position.)
  • Doctorate (PhD or DNP—earned or in-process) is required.
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses: (Current licensure & certifications could be required depending on position and academic program.)
  • Oregon RN and APRN licenses
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Experience: (Experience dependent on academic program type and rank of position.)
  • Relevant national certification and state licensure as APRN, a minimum of 5 years clinical experience and 2 years teaching experience at the graduate level. Ability to teach using multiple pedagogical approaches, including online technologies with demonstrated history of coordinating complex academic functions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement in educational settings and developing cohesive teams.
