Department: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Reports To: Medical Director, NICU Manager

Our children's hospital in San Francisco is a renowned institution dedicated to providing the highest quality care to critically ill infants. As a certified level IV regional NICU, we offer comprehensive care for newborns, from basic to the most intensive, serving patients from across the region.

Position Summary:

The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) plays a vital role in providing expert medical care to critically ill infants within our state-of-the-art NICU. This position requires a high level of clinical expertise, critical thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of infants, including history taking, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the medical team.
  • Perform a wide range of medical procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Intubation and extubation
  • Central line placement and management
  • Umbilical artery and vein catheterization
  • Performing and interpreting diagnostic tests (e.g., ABGs, blood gases)
  • Administering medications and blood products
  • Monitor infant's progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Provide education and support to families regarding their infant's condition and care.
  • Participate in rounds, conferences, and other educational activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and research activities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's Degree in Nursing with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner specialization.
  • Certification: NNP-BC certification required.
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year of recent Neonate NP experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit OR recent completion of a Neonatal ICU Fellowship.
  • Licensure/Certification:
  • Current and active RN and NP licenses in California.
  • Current national certification from an accepted certifying agency.
  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for the position.
  • Current AHA BLS and NRP certifications.
  • DEA license required within 90 days of employment.
  • CMS Medicare and Medicaid enrollment required.
  • Other:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

Schedule:

  • Full-time, 12-hour shifts
  • Available shifts: Days, evenings, nights, rotating, weekends, holidays

Note: Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1.
