Responsibilities:
Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service.
Essential Functions- Responsible for the maintenance of an orderly surgical field and for consistently passing instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
- Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
- Takes part in sponge, needle and instruments counts as dictated by the procedure.
- Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preservesthem for pathology evaluation.
- Assistsin ordering and stocking ofspecialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines
- In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serves as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty.
- Providesscrub servicesfor major proceduresin at least 2 surgical specialties(independently with high physician satisfaction).
- Prepares and conductstechnical performance-oriented training related to specialty service.
- Serves as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub roles associated with their primary specialty(s) and /or second circulates on major tertiary procedures.
- Collaborates with surgeons and proactively addresses case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles.
- In collaboration with the clinical leadership, assists in workflow process improvement activities, contributes to organizational
- Transports and delivers items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs)
- May have limited accessto areasstoring medications.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training: High school graduate or equivalent.Successful completion of:
- Surgical Technology training program; or
- Orlando Health training program
Licensure/Certification: Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification
Experience:Four(4) yearsurgical tech experience. (CST and two (2) years ofsurgical tech experience may substitute for the required experience).
