Tax Manager
Overview:
1932 Capital Management, Inc. is a single-family office (“FO”) that provides private wealth management and financial services to a family that runs one of the largest privately owned 3 rd party logistics companies in North America. The FO’s services are bespoke and demand the highest levels of discretion and attention to detail.
The FO is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as Tax Manager who will report directly to the President of the FO. The Tax Manager is responsible for managing all tax-related matters for the family office, including individual, trust, private foundation, and investment partnership tax returns.This role also assists in estate planning, prepares and calculates estimated tax payments, and collaborates with the tax team of the family’s operating business. This individual ensures compliance with tax regulations and develops strategies to optimize tax efficiency for the family’s unique and complex needs.
Responsibilities:
Tax Planning- Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize liabilities and support the family’s financial objectives.
- Identify and implement best practices for tax efficiency, including opportunities in charitable giving, asset structuring, and multi-jurisdictional planning.
- Stay up to date on changes in tax laws and regulations that impact the family.
- Conduct thorough tax research and coordinate with outside advisors and legal counsel on complex tax matters.
- Collaborate with the FO Investment Team on tax efficient investment strategies.
- Assist in estate planning strategies in alignment with the family’s long-term goals and tax implications.
- Work with external advisors to implement estate planning strategies, including maintenance of trusts and other wealth transfer mechanisms.
- Collaborate with the tax team of the family’s operating business to gather information necessary for tax preparation and planning.
- Develop a coordinated tax strategy across both the family office and the family’s business operations to ensure alignment and optimize efficiency.
- Share tax planning insights that may impact both the family and the business.
- Prepare and review tax returns, including individual, trusts, gift tax, private foundations, and investment partnerships.
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax documents, maintaining compliance with relevant federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Utilize tax automation solutions and identify opportunities for further efficiencies
- Prepare and calculate estimated tax payments for individuals and trusts, as needed.
- Monitor and adjust tax estimates in response to changes in income or other financial activities.
- Collaborate with Accounting and Reporting on compiling tax documents and information needed for tax compliance and planning.
- Maintain organized and secure tax records and documentation to support filings and compliance requirements.
- Prepare reports, spreadsheets and summaries of tax activities for presentation to the FO President and family members.
- Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or taxation
- Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in tax management, preferably within a family office, private wealth management, or accounting firm specializing in high-net-worth individuals.
- Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of individual, trust, and partnership taxation.
- Experience in estate planning and wealth transfer strategies.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting complex tax concepts to family members and executives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency with CCH Axcess and SurePrep, a plus.
- Certifications: CPA preferred, advanced certifications in tax or estate planning (e.g., MST or CFP)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Location & Flexibility:
- The position will be located at the FO’s office in Camden, NJ.
- The role will require 4 days on-site with 1 remote flex day.
- The role will require occasional travel.
