Input Material
Depending on what is being assembled, some input material is supplied as basic material on which further manufacturing processes are performed (such as wire that is wound into heater coils and annealed). Other input material consists of components that are purchased, or come from another Manufacturing group, and are assembled into larger components and/or finished products (such as contactors, indicator lights and other components that are assembled).
Essential Functions
Assembles components and sub-assemblies; components, such as heater coils, require multiple manufacturing type operations, like cutting wire, winding, soldering and annealing the coil and checking resistance between operations to ensure it's within tolerance.Assembly jobs may involve stenciling, installing mechanical components, wire connections, adjusting, calibrating and testing the assembly. Some components that are assembled go into other assemblies and may require additional specific operations.
Components and procedures include printed circuit and terminal boards, indicator lights, push button switches, selector switches, rotary relays, W/L, DRS and GE contactors, thermal/time delay relays (including calibration), spot welding, motor starters and many others.
