Immigration Attorney

We are inviting applications for a non-profit Staff Immigration Attorney based in San Jose, California. This role is focused on providing legal counseling, community education and community organizing to promote self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and a better quality of life for all.
The Attorney will be instrumental in providing equal access to the justice system for low-income populations in the Silicon Valley.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice and representation to individuals on immigration matters, including Visa Petitions and Asylum claims
- Draft legal documents and prepare legal submissions to various immigration authorities
- Seek legal actions to uphold basic human and legal rights of the clients
- Collaborate with legal professionals to ensure the best outcome for the clients
- Conduct community education presentations and prepare educational pamphlets to promote legal awareness
- Handle cases related to housing, public benefits, employment, and domestic violence
- Develop strategies to combat telecommunications fraud and abuse and identity theft
- Adopt a proactive approach to prevent legal crisis through awareness
- Provide legal counseling to individuals with limited English speaking abilities, unfamiliar with the United States social and legal systems
- Nurture a work environment that promotes the organization's mission of equality and justice.
- Must be a licensed attorney in California
- Proven experience in handling visa petitions and asylum cases
- Proficiency in drafting legal documents and preparing legal documentation
- Demonstrated ability in providing legal advice to clients
- Expertise in representing clients in legal actions
- Ability to work collaboratively with other legal professionals
- Previous experience providing legal representation to clients in a professional setting
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity in the practice of law
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines concurrently
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve disputes effectively
- Demonstrated commitment to continued learning and professional development in the field of law
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Proficiency in using legal research software and other related technology.
