Immigration Attorney

We are inviting applications for a non-profit Staff Immigration Attorney based in San Jose, California. This role is focused on providing legal counseling, community education and community organizing to promote self-sufficiency, self-reliance, and a better quality of life for all.

The Attorney will be instrumental in providing equal access to the justice system for low-income populations in the Silicon Valley.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and representation to individuals on immigration matters, including Visa Petitions and Asylum claims
  • Draft legal documents and prepare legal submissions to various immigration authorities
  • Seek legal actions to uphold basic human and legal rights of the clients
  • Collaborate with legal professionals to ensure the best outcome for the clients
  • Conduct community education presentations and prepare educational pamphlets to promote legal awareness
  • Handle cases related to housing, public benefits, employment, and domestic violence
  • Develop strategies to combat telecommunications fraud and abuse and identity theft
  • Adopt a proactive approach to prevent legal crisis through awareness
  • Provide legal counseling to individuals with limited English speaking abilities, unfamiliar with the United States social and legal systems
  • Nurture a work environment that promotes the organization's mission of equality and justice.
  • Must be a licensed attorney in California
  • Proven experience in handling visa petitions and asylum cases
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents and preparing legal documentation
  • Demonstrated ability in providing legal advice to clients
  • Expertise in representing clients in legal actions
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other legal professionals
  • Previous experience providing legal representation to clients in a professional setting
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity in the practice of law
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines concurrently
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to resolve disputes effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning and professional development in the field of law
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Proficiency in using legal research software and other related technology.
