Position Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant First Assist (NPFA/PA) is a licensed professional who renders direct patient care as a part of the perioperative role by functioning as a first assistant to the surgeon. The NPFA/PA has acquired knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon through organized instruction and supervised practice.

The NPFA/PA practices under the supervision of the surgeon in the operating room and labor and delivery area as a First Assistant. The NPFA/PA prioritizes patient needs, coordinates patient care, and collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care.

Major Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe, clean working environment, including unit based safety and infection control requirements.
  • Renders direct patient care as a part of the perioperative role by functioning as a first assistant to the surgeon
  • Practices an expanded role of perioperative nursing and has acquired knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon through organized instruction and supervised practice.
  • Practices under the supervision of the surgeon in the operating room as a First Assistant.
  • Prioritizes patient needs, coordinates patient care, and collaborates with other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the medical plan of care.
  • Coordinate efforts that maximize clinical and financial outcomes.
  • Works collaboratively with the Physicians, Health Care Professionals and other Staff to efficiently and effectively provide clinical services.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant experience, preferred
  • Knowledge of and able to use personal computers, required.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.
  • Experience in Orthopedics and Spine, required.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Education:

  • Graduate of accredited school of Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, required.

Licenses:

  • Current California Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license, required.

Certification:

  • Surgical Assisting Certification of Completion, required. May consider Physician Assistants that have competed a fellowship that includes 6 months to 1 year of time spent in an operating room.
  • Credentialed through Tri-City Medical Staff Office, to be obtained and required upon hire.
  • Current BLS certification, required upon hire; American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
Each new hire candidate who is offered employment must pass a physical evaluation, urine drug screen and pre-employment background checks before starting work.
  • Salary/Hourly Wage range based on experience.
