Job Description:
We are seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join its Finance team, specifically within the tax function. The Senior Tax Accountant will report to both the Director and VP of Accounting and Tax and will work with the broader accounting team and tax advisers.
Responsibilities:
- Review tax books and records, including taxable income, tax basis balance sheet, 704(b) book and tax waterfall, and 704(b) book and tax capital account allocations for various private equity funds, holding companies, and management entities prepared by Fund Accountants.
- Manage the day-to-day tax compliance with two Big 4 tax service providers, including preparation of calendars with targeted dates for PBC documents and service provider deliverables.
- Manage communication with portfolio companies and their tax advisers, including preparation of standardized templates for requested information.
- Track and review service provider deliverables and open points, including federal and state estimate reports, federal and state K-1s / K-3s , federal and state withholding calculations, and federal and state returns.
- Determine where funds can provide state withholding waivers to portfolio companies to prevent tax leakage. Track limited partner state withholding waivers and ensure service providers apply to withholding calculations.
- Review state nonresident withholding calculations prepared by tax services providers for holding companies, funds, and general partner levels.
- Maintain and reconcile state withholding receivable and payable accounts for each legal entity monthly, including tiering the withholding between levels.
- Review limited partner Form W-8s and W-9s. Prepare ECI and FDAP withholding calculations for tax preparer review.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- 4+ years experience in a public accounting state and local tax group
- Proficient in Excel (formulas, shortcuts, etc.)
- Detail oriented with a strong work ethic
- Team player willing to take on many different tasks in a small team environment
- Positive attitude that can contribute favorably to the finance team’s culture
- Intellectually curious and willingness to express ideas
- Ability to multitask
- CPA not required but encouraged
