The Opportunity
This position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division.
In Research & Development (R&D) our ambition is to provide innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience, and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.
What You’ll Work On
Set Vision and Strategy: Drive preclinical and early-stage clinical research to identify innovative nutritional technologies with benefits related to neurodevelopment and cognitive function, including gut-brain axis research. Keep up to date with relevant scientific literature and patent landscape.Growth opportunity to ultimately lead a global brain health research program.
Innovate: Actively engage in innovation to build a robust health-promoting product pipeline: assess new ingredients and technologies; develop preclinical and translational clinical research strategies that generate new evidence for brain health benefits, consumer messaging, and publications.Identify best-in-class external institutional partners to advance Abbott Nutrition cognition research programs. Generate data for patent applications.
Communicate: Develop early-stage cognition research-based content and presentations for delivery to internal and external audiences. Communicate research results to scientists and effectively translate findings to non-scientists. Develop and review manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
Work Cross-Functionally: Establish and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., nutrition science, early-stage development scientists, product development, commercial representatives (marketing and sales), public affairs, regulatory, legal, and external stakeholders (e.g., key opinion leaders, customers, and consumers).Serve as early-stage strategic research lead within cross-functional working groups which include new product development, process improvement, and external program development teams.
Understand Competitive Landscape: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of competitors’ products, ingredients, features, and benefits; monitor educational events; understand implications of competitor activities to Abbott Nutrition.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE, YOU’LL BRING
Required:
- PhD with specific expertise in neurodevelopment and cognition research; background in nutrition is desirable but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; experience working in industry setting highly desired
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with desire and ability to work within a highly collaborative environment: work constructively, decisively, and collegially with external and internal customers, consumers, and key opinion leaders; closely collaborate with global teams and colleagues.
- Proven ability to work independently: proactive self-starter with strong project leadership, research, and publication/scientific writing skills.
- Minimum of 5 years basic research, clinical, industry, and/or academic experience that blends science and business preferred.
- Travel: 15% (Domestic and International)

The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 – $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
