Position Overview:

As the Manufacturing/Lab Supervisor you will play a key part in developing medium volume manufacturing processes, leading manufacturing operations, supporting continuous improvement, and supporting research and development-based testing and evaluation.
This position requires that you possess both an aptitude for sensitive electronic components as well as proficiency with mechanical assembly methods. You will have a passion for optimizing quality and efficiency and will maintain the ability to tailor processes to support your vision of excellence.

The Manufacturing/Lab Supervisor will also provide support to research and development engineers in testing cool new products. This individual may have the ability to represent Pillar Innovations (IOT) out in the field and will be responsible for maintaining good relations with current and prospective customers.

The Manufacturing/Lab Supervisor will report to the IoT Department Manager and will work primarily out of the Morgantown location.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead technicians in successful and on time completion of batched manufacturing jobs
  • Learn and participate in the building of subassembly and finished goods
  • Manage the correct operation and ensure calibration and maintenance is complete for electronics laboratory equipment.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes and environments that drive efficiency and quality for high mix medium volume product lines
  • Demonstrate and transfer knowledge of sound manufacturing techniques including strong mechanical skills (Assembly with fasteners using hand and battery tools as appropriate, gluing and sealing using Loctite, epoxy, RTV and other compounds), proficient electronic skills (soldering [sometimes under a microscope], desoldering, sound ESD mitigation practices, stripping, tinning, and labeling)
  • Maintain lean but adequate inventories of consumable components
  • Identify product and manufacturing defects and lead or be a part of a cross functional team to resolve systemic product flaws
  • Coordinate manufacturing processes with R&D engineers and product owners
  • Maintain equipment and a clean and safe work environment
  • Setup and use test equipment to record, compile and evaluate data. Test new products and/or updates as required and ensuring that accurate test results are kept and feedback is provided to the relevant department.
  • Perform all work in accordance with time standards while maintaining quality standards and safety procedures.
  • Handle sensitive components and equipment

What You'll Bring:

  • Must possess an understanding of the fundamentals of electronics related to the manufacturing process, such as design layout, component selection, assembly techniques, testing, and troubleshooting methods
  • Previous electronics experience, education, or certification preferred
  • Previous experience in project management or leading a team preferred
  • Possess interest in working with established projects and also helping to lead and develop new projects
  • Ability to identify areas of improvement and innovation in device set-up and creation
  • A positive attitude with demonstrated success as a self-starter
  • A drive to lead project teams to push the envelope in the pursuit of excellence
  • Excellent time management skills including the ability to prioritize work

  • Ability to learn to read, comprehend, and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical data and specifications.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, application software such as MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and internet use for communication and record keeping
