Job Description:

Step into your new role

As a Highway Designer working in the Mid-Atlantic Region, you will focus on multiple projects ranging from small transportation enhancements, trails, or PAR sidewalk projects to large highway projects. These projects may include intersection improvements, road widenings, and major interchange developments.

This position is available in the New Cumberland, PA office.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and development of highway and transportation projects, ensuring compliance with applicable design criteria, standards, and regulations.
  • Prepare engineering documents for project advertisements and construction under the supervision of senior engineers and project managers.
  • Collaborate with the highway design team to deliver projects following Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) standards and specifications.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, technical analysis, and assist in the preparation of design plans.
  • Support project budgeting, cost estimating, and scheduling efforts as needed.
  • Participate in site visits and field assessments to collect data and ensure design accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders to coordinate project activities.
  • Travel to project or client sites for meetings and project-related tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0-3 years of experience in highway transportation design. Relevant internship experience or coursework will be considered.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license with a history of safe driving practices.
  • Experience with MicroStation, InRoads, or Geopak preferred.
  • EIT certification preferred.
