Position Overview:

The Cook will assist in the management and monitoring of all aspects of the development of a nutritious daily menu and meal preparation. He/she will prepare low-fat, salt-free, vegetarian and soft meal options to meet special dietary and medically prescribed needs of residents.
The Cook will assist in managing and performing food and equipment ordering and inventory. The ideal candidate should have experience in the safe and sanitary handling and storage of all food items in accordance with New York State and New York City Department of Health regulations.

He/she will be responsible for the general supervision of kitchen area, including overall cleanliness, maintenance of equipment, utensils, and supplies, and the ability to provide instruction to inexperienced trainees. Evening and Weekend Hours may be required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree or certification in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, or Education. NY State Food Handlers Certificate required, additional nutritional training, and certificates preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in all aspects of food preparation and kitchen management in a large institutional/commercial setting. The ability to implement a Culinary Arts curriculum and provide Culinary Arts instruction, supervision, and job skills training to chronically homeless individuals with co-occurring disorders.
