Overview:

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Rail Specialist to join our team in Troutville, VA. This position will be responsible for supporting rail transportation operations related to cement products.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of rail shipments, including documentation for compliance, billing, and inventory control.
  • Prepare and analyze reports related to rail operations, including performance metrics, cost analysis, and incident reports.
  • Liaise with customers, sales teams, and distribution partners to address inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Manage rail-related administrative tasks such as contract administration, invoicing, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and verify the accuracy of shipment data, including load quantities, destinations, and delivery times.
  • Track regular inspections of rail cars and tracks to identify and address potential issues.
  • Assist in the identification of opportunities for improving rail logistics processes and implement changes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Act as a liaison between the cement plant and rail service providers, facilitating effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as production and terminals, to align rail logistics with overall plant operations.
  • Provide administrative support to the wider logistics team. Aligning operations with broader organizational goals, optimizing processes, and facilitating cross-functional collaboration to ensure the successful execution of the company's overall strategy

Qualifications:

  • College degree preferred
  • Prior dispatch or logistics experience preferred
  • Customer service experience preferred
  • A proven track record of superior customer service abilities and decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with SAP software highly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with others
  • Ability to work independently, but also in collaboration with team members
  • Ability to multitask with different, and sometimes conflicting events happening at the same time
  • Ability to work under stress, while remaining calm and facilitating the de-escalating high frustration situations
  • Ability to relay information quickly and accurately both verbal and written in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess a strong work ethic. Strong team concept skills required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; inclusive of Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and overtime when needed.
