Job Summary
The Outreach Coordinator will provide resources, consultation, and support to veterans and their families, ensuring access to essential services. This role involves developing and maintaining strong partnerships with federal and state agencies, local veteran resources, and community organizations to enhance suicide prevention, substance abuse services, homelessness prevention, VA and civilian system navigation, justice-involved programs, and veteran peer support.Additionally, the Outreach Coordinator will assist providers and agencies in delivering crisis intervention, treatment services, and other veteran-focused programs.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments, gathering information on physical ability, service history, mental health, trauma exposure, and other pertinent details.
- Assist veterans in developing Individual Recovery Plans (IRPs) based on intake assessments and identified goals.
- Facilitate connections between veterans and service providers, either by coordinating meetings or physically accompanying them to appointments.
- Deliver training sessions related to veteran support services for both the community and veterans.
- Represent the SAVE and/or SERVE Team at various task forces, interagency meetings, and public forums.
- Advocate for veterans' rights and benefits with service providers, government agencies, courts, employers, and landlords.
- Participate in case management meetings, training sessions, conferences, and professional development opportunities to stay informed about veteran-related issues.
- Act as a liaison between veterans and service providers, fostering productive working relationships.
- Provide recommendations to improve policies, procedures, and service delivery systems.
- Address inquiries from providers, the public, and EOVS staff regarding veteran services.
- Collaborate closely with municipal Veteran Service Officers to enhance service delivery.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Ability to follow established protocols and procedures.
- Experience managing a caseload, outreach activities, and administrative tasks.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally.
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Comfort discussing sensitive topics such as suicide and working with veterans experiencing PTSD and TBI.
- Familiarity with military culture and its impact on service delivery.
- Ability to coordinate services across private, federal, and state agencies.
- Adherence to HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards.
- Public speaking skills with a willingness to represent veteran services at community events.
- Availability to attend events outside of regular working hours and take on-call responsibilities as needed.
- Comfort working with veteran treatment courts and justice-involved veterans.
- In-depth knowledge of veteran issues, services, and policies in Massachusetts.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Preference given to veteran candidates.
