Job Summary:

Performs standard and specialized tests on mechanical seals, mechanical packing, pumps, conceptual devices and auxiliary systems. Some of the tests may be non-standard and unique to individual internal and/or external customers' needs or requests.

Will work closely with the R&D team on new product introduction. Responsible for understanding the process systems and turbomachinery or valve designs that Chesterton products are used in.

Assists in designing test systems, analyzes test data, and identifies trends in order to make recommendations regarding test programs or product improvements. Authors project test reports and proposals for the purpose of purchasing test equipment or documenting test results.

Job Model: On-Site

On-Site positions will require employees to work on-site for each of their scheduled shifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in designing specialized mechanical, machine and / or electrical test equipment which requires the ability to sketch, layout, and procure equipment through final assembly and checkout.
  • Configuration and administration of laboratory Data Acquisition System utilizing computer programming and instrumentation knowledge to conduct tests and obtain accurate test data.
  • Performs tests, which requires mechanical aptitude, data interpretation, and technical writing skills to document test results into report form.
  • Use spreadsheets and database software to provide Marketing and Sales support staff with information to make recommendations and promotional brochures.
  • Prepares equipment justifications, and proposals utilizing research and technical skills to support Engineering management and project leaders.
  • Troubleshoot field products utilizing problem solving skills and technical knowledge to support field personnel and customers on the use of new products.
  • Presents test results and/or technical reports orally and in writing to the Engineering group.

  • Functions in a collaborative environment under moderate supervision after training
  • Integral member of cross functional engineering teams. Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter.
  • Proactive approach to identifying solutions for challenges within assigned duties.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and logical thinking in choosing a particular course of action.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel.

  • Experience with instrumentation and data collection methods and basic programming preferred, but not required.
  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills and concepts in a hands-on environment
  • Experience with turbomachinery, rotating equipment, and/or valves preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to conduct laboratory tests, analyze technical data, and interpret results to internal/external customers at all levels.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum B.S. in Engineering discipline with 0-2 years related experience

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft office systems.
  • Ability to interact and function well in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of instrumentation, electronics, and equipment design principals.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required. Ability to work in an uncomfortable environment; i.e. extreme heat and humidity.

Targeted pay range: $70K - $72K annually

Chesterton is committed to paying all its employees in a fair and equitable manner. The pay range associated with this position ($70K - $72K annually DOE) is Chesterton's good-faith salary estimate for the presently available position. Please note that the final salary offered for any position will be based on many factors, including but not limited to: candidate qualifications such as education and experience, internal equity, geographical location, and budget.
