Objective:

Assumes overall leadership & responsibility for the Business Banking Division which include but are not limited to maintaining and expanding customer relationships along with establishing and implementing the strategic plan to govern overall profitability and drive leadership and engagement for the overall Business Banking Group.
Existing portfolio over 500MM. Demonstrates and models high impact leadership through effective performance management of to Business Development Managers (BDM’s) and Relationship Managers (RMs). Represents the Bank with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity in all customer and Bank engagements.

Partners with other service lines within the Bank in achieving its financial and non-financial goals and objectives. *Hybrid Position*

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Assists in the development of new business for Firstrust. Is alert to expressed customer/ prospect needs to suggest appropriate services. Directs customers to appropriate person to open account.
  • Develops strategic objectives for the Business Banking Division. Partners with members of senior management to develop Bank-wide Small and Medium Enterprise initiatives.
  • Takes leadership role within a region or market as required. Must be a champion for the development of small business loans and deposits.
  • Interviews and make decisions on managed staff to be hired. Set goals for direct reports (BDMs and RMs). Recommends recognition, (including promotions), disciplinary actions, and/or salary adjustments. Properly perform performance appraisals of direct reports, and review their appraisals of the direct reports, on a scheduled basis in accordance with approved policy and salary adjustments that are in accordance with guidelines.
  • Provides guidance and direction to Branch Managers, BDMs and RMs and ensures their success in business development through one-on-ones, coaching, counseling, and training. Will monitor loan goals, deposit goals, balance sheet goals, fee income, fee waivers, and income & expense goals. Looks for ways to continuously improve performance and processes.
  • Takes an active role in the development of small business skills among the Branch Managers, RMs and BDMs and is always striving to improve their performance. Ensures staff is fully trained on small business loans and business deposit products and services.
  • Spend 50% of time in the market with RMs and BDMs developing business with existing customers and new prospects. Supports RMs, BDMs AND Branch Managers with high profile commercial customers.
  • Understands and demonstrates a strong working knowledge of the Bank’s commercial credit and small business credit policies and procedures. Partner with various credit officers assigned to the Business Banking and Small Business teams.
  • Develops tactics to meet monthly sales/service goals along with profitability targets. Director will communicate clearly and explicitly the goals and sales activities to meet the targets.
  • Obtains new loans/deposits through the development and implementation of an internal/external-calling program.
  • Works with RMs and BDMs to evaluate and service the needs of present and potential customers seeking a variety of commercial loans, deposit accounts, and other Bank products. Helps support RMs and BDMs in negotiating loan terms and conditions with customers and prospects.
  • Will create a sense of urgency around the customers’ needs and ensure we are always exceeding our customers’ expectations or looking for new ways to do so and implement standards and processes to exceed our customers’ expectations.
  • Demonstrates and creates an environment where teamwork is encouraged by being flexible, partnering with other departments and ensuring effective communication with other departments to achieve Business Banking objectives and goals. Ensure everyone understands they are a critical part of the team and to the success of the Bank.
  • Demonstrates and holds others accountable and insists the team demonstrates the behaviors consistent with our Core Values.
  • Ensures that RMs and BDMs operate in accordance with all Bank Audit and Credit policies and procedures.
  • Active advocate of the Bank within the organization and with outside community organizations.
  • Makes decisions to recommend or decline business banking loan requests and recommends appropriate additional product sales to new and existing relationships.
  • Makes decisions daily regarding the quality, accuracy and correctness of financial and other business information presented to Firstrust by clients, prospects, and others regarding the underwriting process and the ongoing monitoring of the business banking portfolio.
  • This position makes decisions involving interpretation of existing policies and the need for new or revised policies.
  • Assists in the development of new business for Firstrust. Is alert to expressed customer/prospect needs to suggest appropriate services. Directs customers to appropriate person to establish business relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to drive a motor vehicle, attending meetings at various venues, including but not limited to customers’ offices and/or properties, restaurants and other meeting locations, and ascend/descend stairs and or ladders occasionally to perform inspections.

The employee may be required to lift files/materials up to 20 pounds to take to various locations. The incumbent will be expected to operate a computer terminal and exchange information. The ability to utilize standard office including phone, fax and copier are essential.

Knowledge - Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration / management, Finance, preferred or five to seven years of comparable experience in business development / sales in a banking environment.
  • Seven to ten years of sales leadership and business development experience with a proven history of goal attainment in commercial lending.
  • Results oriented with an exceptional track record in Commercial Lending
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with credit policies and procedures
  • Must be a dynamic leader who true leader who can drive RMs and BDMs to extraordinary
  • results in sales and service.
  • Strong ability to leverage influence with various stakeholders and engage, motivate a higher performing team
