Day Shift Maintenance Specialist

Performs multi trade tasks in the repair and maintenance of plumbing, physical structures, electrical and carpentry in an assigned area ensuring proper safety and standards within the Hospital. Responds to all service requests within a reasonable time frame, within an assigned area so that the overall appearance of the area is acceptable to carrying out the mission of Yale New Haven Hospital.

Responsibilities:

• 1. Performs carpentry repairs and maintenance on casework, doors furniture, shelves, walls, ceilings, and floors to provide an environment where all of these items function correctly and present a proper aesthetic appearance.
• 2. Performs electrical repairs and maintenance on small appliances light fixtures, Hill?Rom bed modules, electrical cords, switches and receptacles to ensure that these items are safe and function properly.
• 3. Performs plumbing repairs and maintenance on faucets, sinks, toilets, flushometers.
• 4. Moves, assembles and inventories furniture and non-electrical equipment throughout the hospital complex to ensure expedient and comfortable use of facility for staff and visitors.
• 5. Performs general demolition activities associated with construction/maintenance projects and performs snow removal service during the winter to provide a safe and passable environment for staff, visitors and patients throughout the hospital.
• 6. Operates Hospital vehicles in a manner that ensures the safe pick-up on delivery of equipment, supplies, parts, etc. Also, applies coats of paint on interior and exterior surfaces in a consistent manner to ensure a quality finish. Displays knowledge in the daily use of safety policies and procedures including Universal Precautions,, Material Safety Data Sheets and asbestos abatement.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION

Position requires high school graduation plus additional training in plumbing/electrical/carpentry trades.

EXPERIENCE

Two (2) to three (3) years experience in the performance of general maintenance activities with emphasis on skills such as minor electrical and plumbing repairs or general maintenance role such as FA or Support Service role. Will be expected to successfully complete a four week training program to remain in position.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Incumbent must have a Connecticut State driver's license (Class 102 or general maintenance role such as FA or Support Service role) and demonstrate dexterity in the handling of trade related tools, moving equipment, furniture, etc. Knowledge of plumbing/electrical/carpentry trade is preferred

Additional Information:

Basic electro-mechanical and plumbing knowledge. Trade school is preferred. Basic knowledge of building systems such as plumbing, drains, showers, lighting, vents, cabinet repairs, etc.
