Summary:The Associate Director, Search and Evaluation will be an integral part of our Business and Corporate Development team. Their primary focus will be supporting the search and evaluation process, including finding, screening, and evaluating product opportunities and other external innovation that can be developed to meet patient needs for non-opioid pain and related therapeutic areas.
They also will lead or participate in due diligence, creating and presenting business cases, and contributing to structuring and executing transactions. The successful candidate will have a background in Business Development and relevant scientific and business acumen.
Responsibilities:

- Proactively search and evaluate external assets for potential additions to Pacira’s portfolio, including assessment of scientific and clinical merit, market opportunity and strategic fit
- Manage, organize, plan and execute diligence on specific external assets
- Develop an understanding of Pacira’s portfolio needs and business processes by building relationships with internal stakeholders – including those in research, process development, clinical, regulatory, market access and reimbursement, portfolio, commercial, manufacturing, and finance
- In areas of strategic interest or Pacira, understand current standard of care, unmet need, competitive landscape, scientific progress, and industry trendst
- Contribute to organizing and managing periodic meetings of external scientific advisors
- Leverage multiple information sources to identify promising assets and other external opportunities, including publications, presentations, competitive intelligence, and industry-related databases
- Evaluate and prioritize external assets for potential addition to portfolio, including by measuring strategic fit.
- Develop business cases for prioritized opportunities, collaborating with other teams to agree on assumptions and value
- Maintain data and dashboard to monitor progress and value of external assets
- Track and report on performance of external search and evaluation
Qualifications:
Education And Experience:
- Advanced degree in a discipline related to Business Development for biopharma (MBA, MS, MD, or PhD).
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry, with at least 3 of those years in Business Development.
- Scientific or business background in pain management or related area (such as neurology, rheumatology, inflammation, or orthopedics).

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Track record of finding and evaluating external assets to build a patient-centered, innovative biopharmaceutical portfolio
- Demonstrated competency in managing diligence processes and assessments
- Understanding of financial evaluation techniques and experience building valuation and deal models is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to build internal and external relationships and develop understanding of new areas
- Ability to understand, analyze, evaluate, and present complex information
- Exceptional analytical skill, including the ability to simplify complex topics, to see and bring to bear larger context, and to organize information into a coherent whole
- Self-starter with innate curiosity and desire to learn new therapeutic areas is a plus
- Strong project management skills including the ability to organize people and information, to create a plan of action, to set priorities, meet deadlines and measure progress
- Excellent oral and written English communications skills, including demonstrated ability to present to senior leadership
- Scientific acumen, and the ability to understand financial, regulatory, development, intellectual property and market elements of drug development and asset evaluation
- Ability to travel up to 40%.

Pay Transparency:
The base pay range for this role in San Francisco is $155K per year to $213 per year.
The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
