Department Overview:

Characterize the pathways that regulate biomaterial delivered miR control of vascular cells. The focus of this work will be to determine how biomaterial delivered miR alters cellular and blood responses. The results of this work will provide insights into ways to safely delivery miR to prevent smooth muscle cell proliferation, while preventing thrombosis on the device surfaces.

Function/Duties of Position:

  1. Perform and design experiment
  2. Data Analysis & Record Keeping:
  • Perform complex data analysis, normalization and interpretation on experimental results generated. Use computer software to input and manage data for future analysis.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records in the laboratory notebook of all experimental procedures, data collection and analysis performed.
  1. Training & Presentations:
  • Maintain high level of professional expertise through familiarity with current scientific literature.
  • Provide training and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Attend and present technical status reports at group meetings and seminars.
  • Give oral presentations of research findings at scientific conferences.
  1. Grant Writing and Publications:
  • Prepare results for publication in scientific journals and presentations at seminars.
  • Able to independently prepare and submit grant applications, and assist Dr. Hinds with these activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in biological sciences or related field
  • Lab experience
  • Basic knowledge of cell biology and biochemistry
  • Demonstrated ability for independent research; strong written and oral communication skills; and ability to work as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in neuroscience or engineering
  • Knowledge of deep cell biology knowledge, as well as transcriptomic approaches and analyses.

Additional Details:

Weekend and evening work needed on occasion to meet project deadlines.
