Medical Billing Specialist

We are offering a contract employment opportunity for a Medical Billing Specialist in the Healthcare industry. Based in Charleston, South Carolina, the role requires you to work on-site initially, with potential for a hybrid work arrangement in the future.

As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be handling billing and coding procedures primarily within an OB/GYN setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately code OB/GYN procedures and diagnoses following current industry standards, including CPT and ICD-10.
  • Ensure compliance with insurance and payer requirements to avoid claim rejections and appeals.
  • Manage claim submissions, rejections, and appeals using the Athena billing system.
  • Collaborate with providers to clarify diagnoses and coding for accurate billing.
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding billing, insurance, and payment issues in a professional and clear manner.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of all patient billing information.
  • Stay updated with changes in the healthcare industry and payer requirements to improve billing efficiency.
  • Utilize your skills in Accounts Receivable (AR), Appeals, Billing Functions, Claim Administration, Medical Billing, Medical Coding, ICD-10, ICD Codes, Billing, and athenahealth to accomplish tasks efficiently.
  • Handle all customer account monitoring and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Process customer credit applications accurately and efficiently.
  • Must have a solid understanding of Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • Proficiency with medical billing functions is required
  • Experience in claim administration is necessary
  • Must be familiar with medical coding and ICD-10, ICD Codes
  • Knowledge of athenahealth software is a plus
  • Skilled in handling billing issues and appeals
  • Prior experience in the healthcare, hospital, or social assistance industry is preferred
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; a degree in a related field is a plus
  • Relevant certification in medical billing or coding is preferred
