AAS Controls Engineering Group Leader

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be a design authority for an engineering discipline. Each day, you will complete assignments on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring assignments are completed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cyber-security policies and standards.

This role is contributing to the Robotics & Discrete Automation Robotics division in the US. Main stake-holders are both our internal and external customers.

You will be mainly accountable for:
  • Working with the customer to shape and deliver solutions while seeking customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements.
  • Creating work plans and cost estimates for the portfolio of projects and ensuring quality, time-ly implementation within the targeted cost.
  • Coordinating with relevant functions to ensure the designs are appropriately manufactured / staged, tested, installed, and commissioned.
  • Coaching engineering colleagues on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation, best practices, and lessons learned from past projects.

Qualifications for the role
  • Minimum: AA in Engineering - Preferably in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Computer Science.
  • 10+ years of automation programming experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of automation and robotic systems applications. Specifically, material handling, machine tending, part washing, and vision guided robotics applications.
  • Efficient using AutoCAD or EPLAN to generate control system packages.
  • Functional electrical maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
  • Competence in industrial machinery controls design.
  • Robot programming experience primarily with ABB products.
  • PLC/HMI programming experience with an emphasis on Rockwell, and Siemens architectures.
  • Functional experience programming VFD’s and Servo controllers.
  • Familiar with international standards (IEC, ISO, NFPA, NEC, UL).
  • Familiar with Chrysler, Ford, and GM standards and specifications.
  • Ability to travel about 20%.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
