Who We Are: Urban Recipe is an Atlanta-based, non-profit organization focused on combating food insecurity in a manner that affirms dignity while providing support and a sense of community among its members and partners. For 30 years, Urban Recipe’s food cooperatives (Food Co-ops) have provided consistent food to people in need, doing so in an environment where recipients build relationships with one another and gain ownership by participating in the process.

Our mission is to partner with our members and supporters in creating food security, building community and providing a platform for personal development.

Position Summary: The Program Manager for Urban Recipe is responsible for the growth and development of a portfolio of Co-ops, and will develop an organization-wide system for tracking Co-op member data and compliance with partner agreements.

The Program Manager will also be responsible for the procurement of food for all of Urban Recipe’s programs and partnerships, in addition to supporting warehouse operations.

Responsibilities:

Administrative and Programming (About 65%)
  • Act as a Co-op Coordinator, and oversee the successful growth and development of a portfolio of Food Co-ops
  • Plan and implement Co-op member registrations, orientations, meetings and/or distributions, and ensure all Co-op members adhere to membership guidelines and progress toward food security
  • Keep track of Co-op member communication through a designated messaging platform, respond to inquiries, and collaborate with co-op coordinators to onboard new members
  • Develop and/or organize all co-op programming tracking logs to ensure reliable, accurate and timely data is available at all times; provide data, statistics, and reports as requested by team members for communications and development initiatives
  • Keep track of Urban Recipe’s co-op programming and operations impact through a monthly dashboard
  • Assist Program Director with coordinating a bi-annual Co-op member feedback survey to support strong communication and ensure alignment between Urban Recipe and Co-op members
  • Develop and implement a plan for Atlanta Food Bank Inspections and periodic review of food safety standards
  • Serves as a representative for Urban Recipe and a liaison to its affiliates, partners and other agencies at meetings
  • Identify innovative strategies to continually improve Urban Recipe’s impact, effectiveness and overall quality of Co-op member engagement
  • Work closely with all team members, creating a team atmosphere; collaborate across operations to develop and implement strategies that serve the needs of co-op members and partners while utilizing best practices to achieve best resource deployment of funds and team members
  • Coordinate with Volunteer Coordinator and Operations Manager on weekly volunteer needs and tasks
  • Assist with the organization’s fundraising and community events as needed
Operations (About 35%)
  • Make all food purchases and ensure the accurate processing of orders in a cost-effective manner that meets organizational goals, program needs, and weekly distribution targets
  • Manage efforts related to preparing fresh produce pallets for all co-op programs weekly, with support from the Operations Manager
  • Manage efforts related to preparing non-perishable and frozen-perishable pallets for all co-op programs biweekly, in collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator and Operations Manager
  • Assist Operations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator in the creation and communication of weekly delivery schedules
  • In collaboration with the Operations Manager, ensure that the procurement process, including ordering, receiving, and distribution are smoothly integrated with all operation functions
  • In collaboration with Operations Manager, ensure the appropriate quality, quantity and variety of inventory is available at all times
  • In collaboration with Operations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, monitor inventory, receipt, assembly (i.e. packaging) and distribution of food products; communicate orders, delivery schedule, and distribution plan for Co-ops and Partners to the team on a weekly basis
  • Work with the Operations Manager to ensure accurate documentation and secure storage of distribution records for audits
  • Work with Operations Manager to ensure all operations and practices are in compliance with governmental regulations and Atlanta Community Food Bank practices, procedures and rules
  • Assist with sorting, packaging, and box assembly; provide backup support for the volunteer coordinator and operations manager as needed
  • Wear and utilize all required PPE and safety equipment/tools
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least two (2) years of experience in a program development or community engagement role

Qualifications:

  • Experience with a Food Bank or Non-Profit organization strongly preferred

  • Previous experience interacting directly with diverse groups of customers
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Employee must be able to lift and transport heavy items to waist level, up to 50lbs
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching and walking are required
  • Required to wear and utilize all required PPE and safety equipment/tools
