Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Technologist, Heart Cath Lab

Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

Position Summary:

Provide assistance to the cardiologist or cardiac surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization and angiography procedures, measuring cardiovascular parameters such as cardiac output, blood flow velocity, cardiovascular dynamics, cardiac electrophysiology parameters, intracardiac shunt detection, valve flow/valve area determinations, intracardiac pressure measurements, oximetry determination, cineangiocardiography, and the measurement and calculation of cardiac function indices.

The technologist assists in all phases of catheterization procedure including insertion of the catheter, operation of various electronic instruments and calculation of hemodynamic data.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical expertise and knowledge of unit are such that complex patient management and physician issues are resolved independently.
  • Serves as a role model to others by assuming the role of the team leader, responsibilities of a preceptor, cross-trains to other areas and provides education to the community and department.
  • Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, general safety and radiation safety standards, and equipment quality control.
  • Actively participates in the orientation and training of new employees and students.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in complex clinical skills to include; IABP, stents, DCA, complex PTCA's, Alblations and Pacemakers.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in cardiac anatomy and physiology, correlating pressure wave forms and rhythm analysis.
  • Proficient in patient assessment, monitoring and sterile technique as required.
  • Assists in the maintenance and effective use of all equipment and supplies in the clinical areas.
  • Member of department or hospital committee with documented participation of 75%.
  • Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians and other customers’ needs.
  • Provides six (6) credit hours of in-service training per year.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.

Minimum Experience:

6 (six) months experience within an invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory that performs invasive cardiac catheterization and associated procedures. Education clinical experience for certification and/or licensure is acceptable.

Licensure Requirement:

Must hold current registration as a:

CCI Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) and/or

CCI Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) and/or

ARRT RT(R) - preferably with a VI or CI category designation.

Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
