Health Care Interpreter

We are in search of a Health Care Interpreter to join our team located in Bakersfield, California. This role plays a crucial part in our healthcare services, bridging the communication gap between non-English speaking patients and hospital staff.

The successful candidate will be tasked with interpreting medical terminologies, translating written materials, and advocating for patients when necessary. This role offers a long term contract employment opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate effective verbal communication between patients, their families, and hospital staff, ensuring clear understanding of medical procedures, assessments, and outcomes.
  • Serve as a liaison, utilizing multilingual knowledge to aid in communication between non-English speaking patients and hospital personnel.
  • Translate pertinent written medical and educational materials into Spanish or other languages, ensuring the language used is culturally sensitive and at an appropriate educational and age-specific competency level.
  • Assist in the operation of phone interpretation services and Video Remote Interpretation service devices when needed.
  • Advocate for non-English speaking patients when necessary, ensuring their needs and concerns are accurately communicated and addressed.
  • Assess the understanding of individuals receiving information, providing clarification when needed.
  • Participate in community events to promote and enhance the hospital's language assistance services.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of hospital policies and procedures related to language assistance.
  • Uphold the Interpreter Code of Ethics as defined by the National Council for Interpretation in Health Care (NCIHC). • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a role involving translation or interpretation services
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, with proven skills in English and Spanish translation
  • Familiarity with hospital administration procedures and protocols
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry and ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals
  • Understanding and adherence to HIPAA Compliance - Patient Privacy Rule
  • Demonstrated skills in patient advocacy
  • Ability to interpret complex medical information to patients and their families
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Willingness to stay updated with industry trends, medical terminologies, and relevant regulations
  • A degree in a related field such as healthcare, language studies, or social work would be advantageous.
