G&A Partners' client is currently seeking a Construction Project Engineer to join its team in Austin, TX.

Summary

Seeking a qualified Project Engineer to provide technical support to construction project management and construction project supervision staff for a critical wastewater treatment plant project in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate has an Engineering or Construction Management degree and a passion for construction

Responsibilities:

The project will have a Preconstruction Phase for the next 15-24 months, and a subsequent Construction Phase lasting approximately 48-60 months.

PRECONSTRUCTION PHASE DUTIES
  • Review and provide comments on contract document packages (drawings and specifications) submitted at 60%, 90% and 100% CD phase of design completion for completeness, discipline coordination, and constructability.
  • Research resolutions to drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences, and errors.
  • Assist with construction sequence planning and scheduling.
  • Assist with construction quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimating.
  • Assist with development of bidding packages for subcontractor procurement
  • Implement projects controls for distribution and record keeping of correspondence, technical records, construction documents, and other project documents.
OPTIONAL PRECONSTRUCTION PHASE DUTIES IF QUALIFIED
  • Identify, map, and resolve conflicts between utilities and project infrastructure in a timely and feasible manner.
  • Input utility information into drawings and generate utility layouts and plan sheets for utility coordination and relocation designs.

CONSTRUCTION PHASE DUTIES

Processing RFIs and Submittals: (Approximately 60% of time)
  • Using analytical skills, review requests for information from subcontractors for clarity and confirm information that cannot be discerned from the contract documents. Shepherd through the Engineer of Record response process and post RFI’s to the As Built contract documents.
  • Use engineering skills to analyze subcontractor and manufacturer’s submittals against contract documents, including exercising discretion to determine if a proffered substitution is sufficiently comparable to recommend for approval.
  • Manage the submittal process, including reviewing and approving shop drawings, using engineering judgment to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews of submittals, identifying deviations from project requirements and coordinating with relevant parties to address and resolve issues. Project Coordination, Communication, and Problem Solving: (Approximately 30% of time)
  • Provide support to the Trade Package Project Managers and Site Superintendents.
  • Shop Drawing Management – Use technical and analytical skills to review shop drawings for general compliance with contract documents and coordination with relevant equipment. Shepherd through the Engineer of Record review and approval process.
  • Change Management – In coordination with PMs and Superintendents, use analyze proposed change orders against the contract documents and use engineering judgment to assess the validity of the proposed cost estimates for the work. Assist in the management of Time and Materials tickets where required on executed change orders and force account work.
  • Scheduling – Link shop drawings to construction schedule activities to ensure timely completion and support PMs in weekly progress updates with the trade contractors and program schedule team in submittal status.
  • Issues Management – Attend routine meetings and track critical issues requiring resolution to maintain construction progress. Drive issues to conclusion through active communications with responsible parties.
  • Quality – Responsible for understanding quality requirements of assigned trade packages and coordinate with trade contractors and Program Quality team to ensure that quality activities are planned, executed, and documented according to contract requirements.
  • Safety - Responsible for the safe conduct of MWH personnel to ensure a zero-accident project. Ensure all site personnel meet minimum safety requirements (e.g. training, orientations, tools and equipment).
  • Work in a manner to ensure your personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.
Documentation and Record Keeping: (Approximately 10% of time)
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all RFI’s, submittals, and related correspondence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent combination of experience, skills and training may be substituted.
  • 2+ years of field construction experience at the jobsite level.
  • Experience on large heavy civil construction, especially water/wastewater projects, is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of contract drawings and specifications, basic construction principles and practices, and construction techniques.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and work within a larger team environment.
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively with others.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and scheduling/documentcontrol applications like Primavera or Procore.
