Academic Advisor- MCOL College Admin
The Academic Advisor is responsible for keeping precise records for the academic progress of Methodist College students, meeting with students on a regular basis, and providing feedback and guidance toward successful completion of the degree program in which they are enrolled.
Responsibilities: Advisement
Demonstrate an understanding and familiarity with paths to degree attainment for all degrees offered at Methodist CollegeAssist students with course registration
Serves as the advisor for students during their first term at the College
Effectively communicate institutional standards required for graduation.
Assigns students to a faculty advisor if required by the department
Keeps precise records of student coursework
Schedule regular meetings with advisees
Empowers students with the skills needed to develop an academic plan that helps them reach their academic goals.
Provides the students with support when adjustments to academic plans are neededCollege involvement and collaboration
Works collaboratively throughout the campus community to support student and department developmentStudent orientations
Participates in multi-departmental orientation planning and post orientation evaluation
Coordinates learning experiences for advising students during New Student Orientation.
Provides follow-up with new students for registration as needed.At Risk Student intervention
Serves as the contact for students who are on midterm warning list to advise and determine grades needed to progress and to share support resources.
Refer students to other resources as needed
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements
Associate's Degree
Experience Requirements- 2 years of experience working in a Financial Aid office. And
- Experience working in a post-secondary institution such as Admissions or a Business Office with some basic knowledge of the FAFSA and Financial Aid programs.
Other Requirements
Knowledge of: Current financial aid principles and techniques Federal, State and local laws, regulations and policies pertaining to the provisions of student financial aid and student records management Microsoft Office applications Skills: Customer service Time management
Essential Functions- Provides excellent customer service to current students via walk-ins, appointments, answering phone calls, answering emails that come through the general financial aid email system as well as those coming directly into the Financial Aid Advisor’s Office
- Responsible for the compliant and effective review of verification documents Develops and updates verification processes in regards to updates to rules and regulations announced by the U.S. Department of Education and IRS. Independently analyses ISIR data to identify which students are selected for verification and determine required documents that are needed based on each student’s unique situation. Collaborate with and supervise the Financial Aid assistant in the communication to students and parents notifying them of required documents. Review documents received and deduce if the student’s file is completed, needs a correction or if additional document/clarification is needed. Once a file is completed, updates CAMS to identity the student is ready for packaging.
- Advises and counsels prospective students, applicants and provisional admits and their families about the FAFSA process, student eligibility issues and the financial aid programs
- Imports Institutional Student Information Records daily from the Department of Education into CAMS. Also imports all records required for students completing Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Notes for the Direct Student Loan Programs
- Exercises authority granted by Department of Education through professional judgment to adjust students' costs of attendance and Expected Family Contribution data elements based on information received through special circumstance requests to determine if additional financial aid can be awarded
- Recruits, interviews and approves Federal Work Study students for Community Service volunteer positions, develops job descriptions and approves community sites as qualifying not-for-profit organizations, collects, verifies and submits timesheets to HR and the Financial Analyst for processing and payments, assists business office with tracking expenditure to ensure institution meets required Community Service obligation
- Assists the Director and Assistant Director with awarding and disbursing loans by contacting students to complete their FAFSAs, Entrance Counseling requirements, Master Promissory Notes and declining or accepting student loans
- Places awards from private scholarships, SDS Grants, Career Link and other county Workforce programs, PCCEO, VA and other sources of aid on student’s accounts and transfers payments when funding is received

Salary Range:The compensation range for this position is $20.02per hour - $32.43per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
