Assistant Project Manager for MCAAS-2 Region West
Roughan & O’Donovan (ROD) is looking to recruit an Assistant Project Manager for the Motorway Contracts, Audit and Administration Services (MCAAS-2) Contract.

About the role
You will be part of a team with responsibility for monitoring and supervising the contractors involved in motorway maintenance and renewal in Region West (Midlands/West area of Ireland), including parts of the N/M18, N19, N85, M20, N21, M7, N/M4 & N/M6.
The MCAAS-2 contract includes monitoring and supervision in the areas of high-speed road operations, maintenance, repair and renewal. Activities to be monitored and supervised include: periodic and non-routine inspections; cyclic and winter maintenance; road infrastructure asset maintenance, repair and renewal.
The role is a unique opportunity to develop your engineering experience in Ireland’s evolving Motorway Maintenance industry.
The successful candidate will be based in the TII Motorway Maintenance Depot, Tulla Road, Ennis, Co. Clare.
Key duties and responsibilities of the role:
- Undertaking spot checks of the Maintaining Organisations’ performance of routine maintenance, incident response and winter services.
- Attendance at Quality and Progress meetings with the Maintaining Organisations. Taking minutes of such meetings, where required.
- Raising non-conformance reports as necessary.
- Reviewing the cost of submitted Instructed works applications and Variations on PPP Schemes.
- Reviewing submitted temporary traffic management plans.
- Reviewing submitted method statements.
- Reviewing requests for the approval of materials.
- Coordinating design of instructed works (EIWOs) with the design office.
- Quality Management – Audits, Internal and External – completing Audit reports.
- Monitoring and reporting on Contractor progress.
- Identification of defects in road infrastructure assets requiring remediation.
- A degree in engineering (Level 8 qualification in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent engineering qualification.
- At least five years’ satisfactory experience of engineering work, including not less than three years’ experience of civil engineering work on highway/road infrastructure projects.
- Good knowledge of health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Fluent/highly proficient in spoken and written English.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A strong work ethic.
- Good organisational skills and ability to liaise with multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Experience in monitoring contractors for compliance with health and safety.
- Experience in monitoring and auditing temporary traffic management.
- Competency in the use of the Microsoft Suite (including MS Project) and AutoCAD.
- Experience in reading and understanding plans and specifications.
- Experience in implementing procedures and systems for accurate record-keeping.
- Experience in preparing clear and concise reports.
