Restructuring Paralegal

The Restructuring Paralegal will play an integral role in providing broad, responsive, and efficient case management, document, and administrative support to our New York restructuring attorneys. Under the direction of partners and associates, and under the general supervision of the Litigation Resources Manager, the Restructuring Paralegal will provide all aspects of debtor and creditor client and case support on a variety of innovative, complex, and often highly visible in- and out-of-court restructuring matters.
Our preferred candidate for this role will have solid experience working on debtor and creditor representations in complex domestic and cross-border bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings; demonstrated effective project management skills; superior organizational and time management skills; effective problem-solving skills; a positive, professional demeanor; the ability to communicate effectively with personnel of all levels; and a record of delivering exceptional client service under pressure in a fast-paced, complex, dynamic environment.
In addition to paralegal duties, an ideal candidate will have experience with litigation docket and calendar management. Together with the Managing Attorney’s Office, the Restructuring Paralegal will act as a liaison to the US bankruptcy courts before whom our New York restructuring attorneys appear.
This role requires an individual who is comfortable in a fast-paced environment, who is agile at juggling multiple priorities and working onsite in the New York office. This individual is personable, responsive, and proactive with a strong work ethic and a “can-do” attitude.The position requires performing diversified and confidential duties to enhance attorneys’ productivity. The role hinges on broad and comprehensive experience, skill and knowledge of Firm policies and practices.
Responsibilities:
- Support attorneys with various matters, including but not limited to complex bankruptcy and out-of-court restructuring matters for both debtor and creditor clients.
- Assist with case management aspects of a restructuring, including preparing and updating working group lists and workstreams, serving as a liaison between attorneys and paralegals on case teams, allocating assignments to paralegals on case teams, managing team task lists, tracking projects, and keeping attorneys apprised of status.
- Assist with all aspects of pleadings preparation and filings, including proofreading, cite-checking, bluebooking, shepardizing, and arranging for service of documents.
- Assist attorneys with legal and factual research.
- Prepare initial drafts of petitions, forms, proofs of claim, hearing agendas, retention applications, fee applications, pleadings, correspondence, and discovery documents and responses, among other things.
- Prepare schedules in connection with the Firm’s retention applications.
- Review Firm invoices to ensure compliance with the U.S. Trustee Guidelines and other applicable rules in connection with preparing the Firm’s fee applications.
- Perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of the Firm's restructuring practice and under the supervision of the NY restructuring partners, counsel, and senior attorneys, as well as the restructuring group’s Practice Development Lawyer.
- Assist with docket research, retrieval, reporting and monitoring; perform other research, reporting and other assignments as needed.
- Assist with organizing and staffing associate trainings and other development opportunities, including CLE programs.
- Support the restructuring group’s Practice Development Lawyer with organizing and maintaining materials, trainings, and precedents relevant to the restructuring group on the Firm’s knowledge management platforms.
- Build sustainable relationships of trust through open and interactive communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four (4) years bankruptcy/restructuring paralegal experience with significant experience working on both debtor and creditor representations.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork skills as well as ability to produce independently with excellent results and accuracy in work product.
- Superior detail orientation, written and verbal communication, organization, problem-solving and time management skills.
- Ability to handle pressure, long hours, prioritize effectively and manage multiple deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities and interruptions.
- Flexibility to work extensive overtime and travel as needed.
- Ability to handle confidential information and materials with care and discretion.
- Prepared to physically work in the New York office, in accordance with Firm policies.
This is a non-exempt role, meaning it is eligible for overtime pay.
