Description:
The Vice President of Operations is an innovative, progress-driven leader, who collaborates with the operating unit’s executive team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of assigned hospital. This includes management of the profit and loss statement for the hospital's services, as well as the related resources associated with the hospital operation.In this capacity, VP of Operations, in collaboration with the operating unit executive team, carries responsibility for integrating the strategic plan of the organization with the operations. They participate in short- and long-term strategic planning for the operating unit and actively promote the mission of Emory Healthcare by assuring the achievement of overall quality, service, financial, and performance improvement outcomes.
The Vice President of Operations, will provide executive oversight and be accountable for:
- Overall success of operations of the operating unit. He/she will lead and oversee the development of the operating unit and strategic plans.
- Daily operations and administrative functions of the operating unit.
- Managing and optimizing the day-to-day operations of the operating unit to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care, financial sustainability, and compliance with regulations.
- Building positive relationships with the medical staff, local community and other healthcare stakeholders.
- Collaborating with system leaders, operational unit leaders, physicians and staff to achieve these objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partners with Hospital CEO for day-to-day operational oversight of the facility, including patient care services, administrative departments, and support services. This includes ensuring efficient and effective workflows and processes.
- Assures achievement of overall quality, service and performance outcomes. Strategic implementation of business objectives. Participates in and plays a key role in short- and long-term planning.
- Develops relationships with and collaborates with physician leadership to drive operational performance. Establishes strong relationships with providing and referring physicians to support the organization and create opportunities for growth. Actively participates in service line and medical staff planning.
- Partners with the Hospital CEO, CMO and the CFO to establish and manage physician contracts and contract performance. Partners with the division President and the CFO to develop the operational and capital budgets. Participates in financial forecasting and analysis. Works closely with the CFO to manage the operating unit’s budget, control costs, and maximize revenue.
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care by implementing process and quality improvement programs, monitoring patient outcomes, and working to maintain or achieve accreditation and regulatory compliance. Allocates resources such as staffing, equipment, and facilities to various departments to ensure optimal use and meet patient care needs.
- Identifies and mitigates risks, including legal and compliance issues. Works with division President, risk management and legal counsel to address legal matters and ensure that the hospital complies with all relevant laws and regulations. Fosters a positive work culture and ensures that team members are equipped to provide excellent patient care.
- Focuses on improving the overall patient experience within the operating unit. This includes implementing initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction, safety, and experience. Oversees the implementation of new systems and technologies to improve efficiency and patient care.
- May represent the hospital at community events and collaborate with other healthcare providers. Collaborates with EHC Regional Division executive team to work with senior leadership to develop and implement policies and procedures that govern hospital operations and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership and complex organizational management skills. Well-developed planning, organizational development, and business skills. Experience in hospital administration in a large and complex setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in business or related degree required
- Graduate degree preferred
- Seven (7) years of progressive senior leadership required
- Experience in a multi-hospital system environment preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, facilitator, teacher, coach, strategic partner, process orientation, knowledge of basic financial acumen
