placeNew York calendar_month

Overview:

A lovely family with two working parents on the Upper West Side is seeking a bilingual education-minded and engaging live-in or live-out nanny for their infant. The family also has an older child- they attend school full-time and have their own afternoon caregiver, but the nanny will accompany them to school in the morning and occasionally care for them if they're out of school.
The schedule will be Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm, with very rare flexibility needed for a date night. The nanny can be live-in or live-out, depending on their preference. A live-in nanny will be provided their own private bedroom and bathroom.

The family also has a home on Long Island (approximately 3 hours from the UWS) where the nanny will occasionally be required to work.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the morning routine and and accompany the four-year-old to school (within walking distance)
  • Manage infant sleep and feeding schedules
  • Prepare children's meals, including baby food
  • Child related laundry and tidying
  • Speak with the children in a second language to encourage language acquisition
  • Engage with the children in a developmentally appropriate way- focusing on education and development with a play-based approach. Focus on explaining the world, discussing the child’s environment, and focusing opportunities for creative discover and play.
  • Proactively plan outings and activities- the family believes that there is "no bad weather, just bad clothing", and the nanny should feel comfortable with outdoor adventures daily, rain or shine.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with infants and toddlers simultaneously
  • Knowledgeable about childhood development, with a collaborative approach, but ultimately willing to defer to the parents' role and choices
  • Background in childhood development and education
  • Extremely reliable and punctual, as both parents have demanding jobs
  • Warm and caring, with a playful energy and high level of engagement
  • Understanding of household boundaries as the family is quite private
  • Goal oriented- should enjoy setting goals for the children and executing those plans

Requirements:

  • Must be willing to spend weekdays with the family at their home on Long Island during the summer months and live-in Monday-Friday if not able to commute
  • The ability to speak and teach a second language is required
  • Driving is NOT required, but desired
  • Swimming is NOT required, but highly desired

Salary and Benefits:

  • $34-36/hr., equaling an annual compensation of $120-130k
