Department Overview:

Patients in the Electrophysiology & Cardiac Catheterization Lab are cared for by a multidisciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Registered Radiologic Technologists, Interventional Cardiologists, and Electrophysiologists. Procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab are performed from infants to geriatrics that include: diagnostic and interventional coronary angiogram, complex valve, congenital, intra-aortic balloon pump placement, Impella placement, STEMI, post heart transplant and heart failure procedures.

Patients require continuous hemodynamic monitoring and frequent physician, nursing and technologist intervention.

The Cardiac Cath Lab Cardiovascular Radiologic Technologist (CV RTR) performs a variety of technical functions and patient care activities intraprocedure. The primary function of the CV RTR is the operation of fluoroscopy in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to: monitoring procedures, scrubbing procedures, unit development projects, assisting with supply and equipment management/stocking, and other duties as assigned. Cath Lab CV RTR staff may be cross trained to EP procedures and support those cases as needed.

The Cath CV RTR may be trained to assist in TAVR and TMVR procedures in the SOR Hybrid OR room.

The department is open Monday through Friday from 0730 to 1800 for routine, urgent, and emergent cases. Outpatient procedures are also performed at the Center for Health and Healing Building 2, Multispecialty Procedure Unit (MSPU). Staff are expected to work in both locations.

Flex employees are not required to take call.

Function/Duties of Position:

  • Assists physician during cases while operating a variety of complex radiologic imaging equipment including fluoroscopy and ultrasonography within the Cardiac Cath Lab suite. This includes circulating in the procedure room, operating the imaging equipment in both adult and congenital procedures. Cross train to another service area (EP, Hybrid OR, etc.).
  • Prep the patient and prepare supplies under sterile conditions for the procedure. Scrub in with the physician and assist in performing procedure.
  • Accurately obtains x-rays for the exams while being respectful to the patient’s abilities and safety issues.
  • Operates automatic injectors and selects the appropriate contrast agent for the patient and the exam under the physician's direction.
  • In collaboration with other staff, provide patient care during examinations.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance and use including recognizing, troubleshooting, reporting, and documenting equipment malfunctions along with coordinating borrowing equipment from other departments.
  • Work independently on-call with department physicians and nurses.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program.
  • Two years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
  • EP/Cath Lab technologist knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • A valid Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist license issued by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging
  • Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • BLS, ACLS upon hire
  • Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Cardiac Interventional and/or Vascular Interventional certification from ASRT (RCIS preferred)

Additional Details:

Pay Range: $50.55 - $69.41 per hour (Commensurate with qualifications, experience and internal equity)
