Public Health Nurse II - Immunization Unit

The Henderson County Department of Public Health is accepting applications for one full-time Public Health Nurse II for the Immunization Unit. The employee in this position functions as one of the two immunization nurses in a public health clinic setting.The primary purpose of this position is to promote age-appropriate immunizations for all ages; to assure availability and effectiveness of required and recommended vaccines by following department guidelines of ordering, storage, and handling.
This position shares responsibility for the administration of vaccines; foreign travel immunizations and education; administering and reading tuberculosis skin tests and referrals of positive TB skin tests. The person in this position may also be required to work in mass on-site and off-site vaccine clinics outside normal business hours to meet the needs of the community in controlling spread of diseases.
Other responsibilities include serving as a back-up to personnel in the tuberculosis control and communicable disease programs.
Schedule:
Work week is 8:00AM to 4:30PM Monday through Friday, with shared coverage for the 24/7 communicable disease cell phone (including evenings and weekends). Extended hours (including weekends and holidays) and/or alternate hours may also be required during public health emergencies or to meet agency needs.
Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge of, and skill in, the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities; ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions; adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, and accessing of information.
Required Minimum Education and Experience:
Current N.C. Registered Nurse license; Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience.
