Senior Controller, Real Estate

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Senior Controller in the Real Estate industry, located in Long Beach, California. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the general ledger, leading a team of detail-oriented individuals, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with internal controls.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the reconciliation and maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all financial transactions are accurate and complete.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of detail-oriented individuals, fostering a high-performance work environment and promoting growth.
  • Coordinate the preparation of internal and external financial statements, and provide vital financial information to management to aid in decision-making processes.
  • Support strategic planning and budget management, scheduling expenditures, analysing variances, and initiating corrective actions as required.
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls to protect assets, and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial data.
  • Handle special projects as needed, working closely with the legal department on new loans and conducting due diligence on acquisitions.
  • Maintain and update various accounting systems and records, including GL accounts, property codes, property lists, and banking information.
  • Manage an Insurance Captive, overseeing premiums billed and claims processed, and liaising with external auditors, actuaries, and the insurance broker.
  • Respond promptly and detail-oriented to all lender requests for information and reporting.

  • Role requires a minimum of 15 years experience in a similar position
  • Proficiency in using Accounting Software Systems is necessary
  • Extensive knowledge of Accounting Functions is essential
  • Ability to manage both Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) is required
  • Prior experience in Auditing processes is a must
  • Familiarity with Budget Processes is expected
  • Candidate must hold a CPA certification
  • Experience in Tax Preparation is crucial
  • Competence in Tax Research & Planning is mandatory
  • Proficiency in Tax Planning Strategies is needed
  • Expertise in Financial Planning is a requirement
  • Ability to Prepare Financial Statements accurately is necessary
  • Experience in managing General Ledger is essential.
