Richmond - Project Manager - Industrial Bioprocessing

OVERVIEW:

Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced project manager to contribute to the company’s growing practice in industrial bioprocessing. The business is currently comprised of projects in biofuels, biochemicals, sustainable food processing, advance proteins, and renewable natural gas (waste to energy).
This is NOT a pharma / laboratory bioprocessing opportunity. Candidate should be experienced at managing some or all of these types of bioeconomy projects. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule and will be located in one of the following offices: Richmond, VA; Greenwood Village, CO; Tulsa, OK; Baltimore, MD; Newport News, VA; or Chattanooga, TN.

Relocation will be considered.

Typical annual pay range for this position is $121,700.00 - $170,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job related knowledge, skills, and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

This position is multidimensional in nature and requires elements of sales, team building, and project execution. Responsibilities include:

  • Understand the importance of Business Development, project management for A-E firms, managing budgeted design effort, and demonstrate skills in multi-discipline teams.
  • Track major bioprocessing industry trends through participation in industry organizations.
  • Expand business development and meet with clients to develop scope of work.
  • Contribute to corporate and business unit strategic planning efforts.
  • Serve as an account manager for key clients.
  • Manage project teams with multidisciplinary engineering discipline leads.
  • Master and implementing industry best practices from PMI, CII and AACE.
  • Oversee project planning, earned value measurement, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Travel to client sites one or two times per month.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience of project execution of bioprocessing sector.
  • General understanding of projects involving fermentation, downstream processing, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, gas cleanup, bioreactions, thermal chemical conversion, and biomass material handling.
  • Strong bioprocessing industry relationships.Strong project management skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices including front end loading (FEL) and VIP.
  • Understanding of earned value management, project scheduling, and risk management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interface successfully with clients, partners, project teams, and Merrick management.
  • Ability to visit industrial sites and construction sites for the intent of performing inspections and observations that may be physically demanding. These inspections and observations may be made at heights, in confined spaces, and may require the use of a respirator to perform the inspections.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick’s insurance carrier.
