The Foundling’s External Affairs Department seeks an exceptionally organized, energetic, resourceful, and highly motivated full-time Policy and Communications Coordinator to join our team. This individual will report to the Assistant Vice President of Communications and Marketing and will provide programmatic and policy support to The Foundling’s nearly 3,000 employees across five service lines representing 40 programs in New York and Puerto Rico.

They will play a key role in crafting organization-wide communications and supporting employee and community engagement efforts. They will also work closely with the Senior Vice President for External Affairs and Public Policy to support The Foundling’s policy and advocacy platform, conducting policy related research, attending hearings and representing the Foundling on key coalitions at all levels of government.

The External Affairs Department advances the mission and vision of The Foundling through developing and implementing an organization wide integrated marketing, communications, policy, and advocacy strategy to increase awareness of the programmatic and public policy activities.

Responsibilities:

The External Affairs Department advances the mission and vision of The Foundling through developing and implementing an organization wide integrated marketing, communications, policy, and advocacy strategy to increase awareness of the programmatic and public policy activities.

Marketing and Communications Coordination:

  • Develop strong partnerships with staff across all programs and departments to support the creation, writing, scheduling, and dissemination of organization-wide internal email and other communications, ensuring internal communications messages are consistent and clear across functions within the organization.
  • Manage and optimize The Foundling’s primary social media accounts. Identify creative and engaging opportunities to retain current social media followers and to engage new followers.
  • Support the conceptualization, recording, production, and dissemination of videos that offer a compelling and engaging narrative of the impact of The Foundling’s services. Deploy this content across various channels including social media, The Foundling website, and other marketing materials as well for internal use to support staff engagement and education.
  • Create and design invitations, flyers, and other collateral material needed by programs and operation departments.

Policy, Advocacy & Community Engagement:

  • Partner with Foundling leadership and program staff to attend and support the logistics of community engagement events that expand the reach of the program and services.
  • Collaborate with senior and program level staff to identify and track relevant practices and policies at all levels of government that impact the people we serve and Foundling staff; support the development of organizational priorities in response.
  • Draft fact sheets, public testimony, analyses, and recommendations related to policy and legislative priorities; attend and testify at hearings.
  • Coordinate special events including lobby days, conferences, and trainings that advance the agencies policy and legislative agenda.
  • Represent the organization on key coalitions and alliances at all levels of government.
External Affairs Office Support
  • Assist with department management; maintaining project timelines, goals, and tracking; scheduling meetings with internal and external stakeholders bringing together short-term committees and workgroups; and leading other related administrative duties.
  • Performs other communication and policy related assigned duties related projects and tasks as assigned.

Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000/year

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in communications, public policy, digital marketing, or related field.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, demonstrate a high degree of initiative, work independently and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Ability to manage projects effectively, delivering on time and within budget, utilizing appropriate resources, anticipating risks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Experience communicating complex information (including policies and protocols) as clear and compelling content for diverse audiences.
  • Intellectual curiosity and ability to think outside of the box to efficiently solve problems.
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; Sharepoint and MS Teams a plus.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite and graphic design software (preferred)

Education Required:

Bachelor’s Degree from a U.S. accredited educational institution or Credential Evaluation for a non-U.S. educational institution
