Position: Certified Medical Assistant
Location: Whippany, NJ 07981

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Pay Rate: $21.00 onwards

Job Description:

The Certified Medical Assistant will provide clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care. Responsibilities include:

Clinical Duties:

  • Perform venipuncture and/or electrocardiograms (EKGs) as required.
  • Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and dressing as needed.
  • Accompany patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations.
  • Collect and process specimens, conduct point-of-care testing.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and treatments.
  • Take and record vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Prepare prescription refill requests for physician approval.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.

Administrative Duties:

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow for efficiency.
  • Answer patient calls, provide information, and address inquiries.
  • Manage patient medical records, ensuring accuracy and organization.
  • Obtain lab reports, hospital notes, and referral documentation.
  • Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) systems for data entry and updates.
  • Schedule patient appointments, verify insurance, and assist with pre-certifications.
  • Coordinate with the Surgical Coordinator for scheduling and pre-admission documentation.
  • Complete and process necessary forms and requisitions.

Medical Supply & Equipment Management:

  • Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies as needed.
  • Set up examination rooms and ensure proper sterilization of instruments.
  • Maintain logs for medication refrigeration, crash carts, and point-of-care testing.
  • Monitor and dispose of expired medications and supplies per policy.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Adhere to infection control policies and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comply with bloodborne pathogen regulations and safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe and secure work environment by following procedures and guidelines.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including with multicultural patients.
  • Strong telephone etiquette.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Experience with EMR or billing systems preferred but not required.
  • Ability to adapt to a growing and changing healthcare environment.

Education & Certifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
  • BLS Certification (AHA Required).
