Dental Hygienist - DH24-10116

Shift: Monday-Friday (8 hours/day) or Monday-Thursday (10 hours/day)

Position Summary:

The Dental Hygienist will work collaboratively with administrative and front desk staff to efficiently schedule hygiene patients and provide comprehensive oral care.

Responsibilities:

• Schedule hygiene patients in coordination with administrative staff.
• Accurately chart each patient’s periodontal health and maintain thorough records.
• Counsel patients on oral health and the role of nutrition in maintaining dental hygiene.
• Monitor patient comfort during treatments and address any anxiety.
• Apply cavity-preventative agents, including fluorides and sealants.
• Perform gentle and thorough prophylaxis on patients.
• Take radiographs as prescribed by the dentist.
• Administer local anesthetics, as permitted by dental practice regulations.
• Conduct scaling, root planning, and selective polishing when appropriate.
• Review and update patient health and dental history forms.
• Ensure cleanliness and sterilization of the treatment room.
• Provide counseling on tobacco cessation.
• Maintain confidentiality and securely handle patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Typical Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

• Work performed in a clinical dental setting with direct patient interaction.
• Exposure to medicinal preparations, communicable diseases, and other clinical conditions.
• May involve working in fast-paced environments or irregular hours.
• Requires physical activity such as standing, walking, sitting, and using hands to handle instruments.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Submission Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of current experience required.
• Michigan Dental Hygiene license (required).
• Associate degree in Dental Hygiene (required).
• Experience with Cavitron (required).
• Familiarity with Dentrix EMR (required).
• Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
• Good interpretation skills for effective communication with patients and staff.
• Ability to present information effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn electronic healthcare systems software.
• Previous travel experience is highly preferred.

Certifications: AHA BLS certification (required)
