Responsibilities:

Designing a low-cost measurement instrument
  • You will work in a team of 3-4 interns.
  • The internship is onsite at the Keysight Campus, where you will work together with your team in a physical workspace.
  • You will be part of a team with an allocated budget, competing against 3-4 other teams in a design competition to develop low-cost measurement instrument. This will involve teardown analysis and innovative ground-up design.
  • The winning team will receive a prize of X$$.
  • You will be assigned a Coach/Mentor who will provide an overview of:
  • The target product and its high-level functionality.
  • Relevant datasheets and technical information.
  • Guidance on interfacing with Keysight personnel.
  • Your team’s deliverables will include:
  • Architecture Design, Block-Level Design, or Schematic Design.
  • Early prototypes.
  • Internship Duration: 3 months, with an option to extend up to 6-9 months.
  • Accommodation: The company will sponsor a rental house near the campus for interns during the project.

We are seeking highly motivated PhD students to join a cutting-edge design project focused on core technology within an instrument. This project will start with a 3-month design phase as a pilot. If successful, the project may extend into 6-9 months, transitioning from design to the physical build of the instrument or module.

  • Must have completed MS and be in your PhD program
Skills Needed: Combination of electronics, signal processing, and circuit design skills.
  1. Electronics and Circuit Design
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuits, Knowledge of RF electronics, Experience with op-amps, filters, oscillators, and mixers.
  1. Signal Processing
  • Understanding Fourier Transform, Knowledge of waveform generation techniques, Concepts of modulation and demodulation, Signal amplitude, phase, and frequency analysis, Working with bandwidth, resolution, and dynamic range.
  1. Block Diagram Design Skills
  • Ability to conceptualize signal flow (e.g., from antenna to output display).
  • Knowledge of key components: RF Front-End (LNA, Mixer, LO), IF (Intermediate Frequency) Section, ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter), Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Unit, Display/Interface Module
  1. Schematic Design and PCB Layout
  • Experience with schematic capture software, Understanding of PCB layout considerations for RF circuits, Knowledge of grounding, shielding, and impedance matching.
  1. Embedded Systems and Microcontrollers
  • Familiarity with FPGA, DSP, or microcontrollers for real-time processing, Programming in C/C++ or Python.
  1. Test and Measurement Skills
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers, Understanding of signal integrity, noise reduction, and error handling.
  1. Simulation and Modeling
  • Working with MATLAB, Simulink, LTspice, or ADS (Advanced Design System), Ability to simulate and analyze RF circuits and signal processing algorithms.
  1. System Integration and Debugging
  • Ability to integrate different hardware and software components, Debugging skills using logic analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.
