Journeyperson Powerline Technician

Grimsby Power is located in the Town of Grimsby, on the western edge of the Region of Niagara. Grimsby Power serves over 12,000 customers and is committed to providing the Town of Grimsby with an economical, safe and reliable supply of energy.

Grimsby Power is looking for an experienced and competent team player with exceptional mechanical aptitude, strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems, and a fervent interest in all aspects of constructing and maintaining overhead and underground electricity distribution systems.

The successful applicant will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • Qualified as a Journeyman Power Lineperson including successful completion of the MEARIE Powerline Technician Program or equivalent;
  • Must be proficient in the use of all equipment associated with power lineperson trade;
  • Must be able to perform work from work instruction specifications and standards and to interpret prints, sketches and diagrams;
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the Lineperson position (outdoors, climbing, lifting, pulling and moving in and out of bucket);
  • Ability to deal effectively and courteously with public and

Education Required Licenses or Special Requirements:

  • Certification as a Journeyperson Powerline Technician including successful completion of the MEARIE (formerly MEA) Powerline Technician Training Program, or equivalent or 4th year apprentice
  • A high school diploma with a minimum of Grade 12. A Community College Diploma in electrical technology or a related field of study is an asset;
  • Valid Class ‘AZ’ or ‘DZ’ driver’s license and an excellent driving record;
