Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) works with clients on a global scale designing solutions for renewable energy (solar/wind/battery storage), Generation Interconnection, Transmission Planning, Distribution Planning, Distributed Energy Resources (DER), and Smart Grids.

How you can make an impact:

The Power Systems Engineer Intern will learn to develop and conduct computer modeling, analysis, reports, presentations, and technical research related to various elements of the distribution system including distribution planning studies, short circuit and protection coordination studies, system design studies, cost-benefit and alternatives analysis, generation interconnection applications, and distributed energy resource (DER) system impacts.

  • Support clients by addressing technical questions on electrical theory, problem-solving, code compliance, and other engineering topics, with a focus on growing technical expertise.
  • Conduct distribution planning studies, including load growth projections, power flow analysis, and mitigation studies using industry-standard software, with opportunities to enhance technical and analytical skills.
  • Evaluate the impacts of distributed energy resources (e.g., solar, wind, storage) on power systems and propose cost-effective mitigation measures, gaining insights into cutting-edge energy technologies.
  • Perform research on emerging energy technologies and distribution automation capabilities, contributing to innovative solutions while expanding knowledge in advanced power systems.
  • Prepare technical reports, one-line diagrams, and data visualizations while maintaining organized engineering data, with room to refine professional communication and technical documentation skills.

Qualifications:

Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:

  • Completion of, or current enrollment in, a bachelor’s degree program with a major in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university.
  • Completion of, or current enrollment in, power systems fundamentals class(es) (strongly preferred)
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher

Location: This position will be in person in Austin, TX or Champaign, IL. Start date for this position is May 27th, 2025 and will conclude on August 15th, 2025. The position is 40 hours a week.
