Duration: 3 Months+ Possible extension

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our healthcare team. This role is responsible for providing direct patient care, assisting physicians with procedures, and performing administrative and clerical duties. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, proficiency in medical procedures such as venipuncture and EKGs, and experience with electronic medical records (EMR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with patient care, including taking vital signs, performing venipuncture, EKGs, and point-of-care testing.
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist with mobility, dressing, and transfers as needed.
  • Support physicians during procedures and relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Maintain medical supplies, sterilize instruments, and ensure compliance with infection control policies.
  • Monitor medication expiration dates and maintain proper documentation for refrigeration logs, sterilization processes, and crash carts.
  • Comply with all legal regulations and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Administrative & Clerical Duties:
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system and process prescription refill requests for physician approval.
  • Manage patient charts, ensuring accurate documentation and filing.
  • Obtain and organize lab reports, X-rays, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Schedule surgeries and procedures, preparing necessary forms and consents.
  • Verify and update insurance information, perform pre-certifications for procedures, and maintain patient office schedules.
  • Assist with patient registration, appointment scheduling, and demographic updates.
  • Answer calls, provide information, and ensure effective communication with patients and staff.

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Computer proficiency (MS Office Suite – Basic level).
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to interact with diverse patient populations.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving healthcare environment.
  • Experience with EMR or billing systems preferred but not required.

Education & Certification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification – Required (AHA Issuing Authority).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Required.

Work Environment:

  • General office and clinical setting with some physical demands, including assisting patients with mobility.
  • May involve handling biohazard materials and exposure to infectious diseases.
